Kerbal Space Program 2 is finally taking flight after numerous delays. The space flight sim is going to take to the skies as the developers announced that the game will be launching as an early access title.

Private Division and Intercept Games announced on the Kerbal Space Program website that the early access period will "allow players to see features as they are released and provide feedback to shape this exciting game through development." According to the studio, "new features will periodically be added through Early Access that will captivate veteran and returning players, as well as usher in a whole new wave of Kerbonauts to the ingenious and comedic world that has entertained millions."

Buying into early access, players will have a "front-row seat as major new systems come online, including the addition of new star systems, interstellar travel technologies, colonies, multiplayer, and more."

Kerbal Roadmap
Intercept Games has provided a roadmap for early access.

KSP2 will feature a new animated tutorial, improved UI, and fully revamped assembly and flight interfaces. This will help new and returning players ease into the sequel.

The flight simulator will also add new engines, parts, fuel, and procedural parts systems to the game. The vehicle assembly has also been overhauled to make it much more precise. Kerbals can now also customize the color schemes of their space vehicles.

The game will also showcase new celestial bodies that players can attempt to land on. These new worlds contain a new terrain system that models each one from the ground to the upper atmosphere.

A new addition to KSP2 is space colonies. Kerbals can now gather resources to colonize the worlds they land on. Eventually, these settlements will become advanced and allow for travel into deeper space.

Interstellar travel has also been added to KSP2. Kerbals can now reach faraway star systems that they can explore and colonize. These new star systems also have diverse and realistic physics and environments.

KSP2 will add chaos by including multiplayer support.

Kerbal Space Program 2 will also be featuring multiplayer. Gamers can compete with friends on which one is the better rocket scientist and reach other worlds first. Players may work with each other to achieve similar goals.

KSP2 will also support modding as the developers recognized that it is an important part of the game. The developers aim to have a game that is modder friendly and will be providing support to the community.

All these features look to make an exciting sequel which should be as fun and rewarding as the original. A science-based spin-off title to the Kerbal Space Program is reportedly also being developed.

Kerbal Space Program 2 will be available for early access on February 23, 2024, on PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam. There is no mention of when the game will arrive on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
