Keenu Reeves reveals where The Ballerina fits in the John Wick timeline

The film takes place between the third and fourth John Wick movies.

The John Wick universe is expanding exponentially. Keanu Reeves is set to return to a fourth and fifth John Wick movie while Ana de Armas is set to star in the spin-off Ballerina, which is also going to feature Reeves. Paramount Pictures is also gearing up for a spin-off series, The Continental, featuring a young Winston.

Reeves discussed the upcoming John Wick spinoff at CCXP.

We already know that The Continental spin-off will be set well before the events of the first John Wick movie. Fans have been wondering how Ballerina would slot into the John Wick timeline, as it will be released after John Wick 4.

Reeves himself reveals how the upcoming spinoff fits in with the rest of the John Wick movie franchise. The John Wick actor made an appearance at Brazil’s Comic-Con Experience and sat down with Hyper Omelete to discuss the upcoming films. Reeves confirmed that the spin-off takes place between the third and fourth John Wick films.

"So, the film Ballerina that Ana de Armas stars in being directed by Len Wiseman has already started filming, and it takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4."

It's interesting how Ballerina takes place between the events of the third and fourth movies. John Wick was severely injured during the third film after going through a firefight with the High Table assassins, being shot by Winston at point-blank range, as well as falling off the roof of The Continental. At the end of John Wick: Chapter 3, the legendary assassin allies himself with the Bowery King and is set to go to war with the High Table.

How is John Wick related to the Ballerina

John Wick and the Ballerina were both trained by The Director.

We know very little about the plot of Ballerina at this point. However, we can assume it will take place in Europe. We previously reported that Reeves was in Prague for the filming of Ballerina which suggests that Wick traveled to Europe after the third movie.

We can surmise that John Wick traveled to Europe, after the events of John Wick: Chapter 3, to recover from his injuries and perhaps gather allies for his war against the High Table. We know that John Wick is in Paris in the fourth movie as the Arc de Triomphe was seen in the first trailer.

The Ballerina is related to John Wick as they were both trained by the "Director," the head of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate. Fans have speculated that the ballerina is the same character seen dancing on stage just as the Adjudicator arrives to punish the Director for aiding John.

The Ballerina may also be of Belarusian heritage similar to Wick. It was revealed in Chapter 3 that John’s real name is Jardani Jovonovich and that he was born in Belarus. It was also hinted in the John Wick: Chapter 4 trailer that his family sits at the High Table.

Anjelica Houston will be returning as the Director in the spinoff.

Anjelica Huston is set to reprise her role as "The Director" in Ballerina. Lance Reddick will be returning as Charon, the concierge at The Continental hotel.

It will be a while before we know the Ballerina spin-off ties in with the John Wick series. It only just started filming last month and there's still no release date for the movie.
