Renner is best known for playing Hawk Eye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to the authorities, the Avengers star was accidentally run over by one of his snow plows outside his home. The machine, which is called a snowcat or PistenBully, weighs 6.5 tons, give or take, which is around three times the weight of the average car if not more.

At the time of the accident, Renner was assisting a family member whose car got stuck in the snow outside his home. Renner successfully used the snowcat to free the vehicle from the snow. However, the snow plow began to move on its own while the actor was talking to his relative. The actor attempted to hop back into the driver’s seat to get the machine under control. Unfortunately, the snow plow ran over the actor.

"An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr. Renner getting into the PistenBully and not seeing him again until the PistenBully came to a rest in a pile of snow in front of his driveway," Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said in a press conference.

Renner is known as a "great neighbor" and always used his snow plow to clear local roads. "Throughout the community, he has been very generous and he's one of those individuals that most of the time you don't know he's doing it, but he has made a tremendous impact on this community," the sheriff added.

Thor actor Chris Hemsworth said, "Speedy recovery buddy. Sending love your way!" Marvel director Taika Waititi posted, "My brother I love you." WandaVision’s Paul Bettany adds, "Love you mate. Sending you love and healing."

Renner’s family released a statement thanking first responders and hospital staff for taking care of the actor.

"Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve, and the Carano and Murdock families," the statement said. "They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans."

Jeremy Renner is still technically part of the MCU, which kicks off Phase 5, the second act of the Multiverse Saga, on February 17 with the premiere of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
