Jensen Ackles confirms that he is working on a Batman project

This isn't the first time that the Supernatural actor has been linked to the Dark Knight.

Most people might know Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester from the Supernatural series, but he's actually built himself quite the resume.

Jensen Ackles has voiced at least two Batman-connected characters already.
Jensen Ackles has voiced at least two Batman-connected characters already.

For example, Ackles is currently starring in The Boys Season 3 as Soldier Boy, who is one of the first "Supes", which is what the live-action adaptation based on the comic books with the same name calls the superpowered heroes in their universe. In addition to this, Ackles has lent his voice to the DC Animated Universe as the Red Hood, otherwise known as Jason Todd, the second Robin, in Batman: Under the Red Hood, and as the dark knight himself in The Long Halloween.

Now, months after "teasing" that he's working on a secret DC project, Ackles just confirmed how much work he's put into what we're assuming is the same thing.

Ackles revealed this new bit of information over at the Late Night with Seth Meyers when he talked about his current time on The Boys and his career, in general. Afterwards, Meyers brought up Ackles' superhero voicing work, Ackles said,

Yep. In fact, I just spent about three and a half hours in the studio yesterday doing, uh, doing Batman… That was a big deal. I don't want to drop that ball.

Going back to Ackles' earlier statement at SXSW, one would assume that he's talking about Greg Berlanti's DC project. Berlanti is best known for his work on The CW's slate of live-action adaptations of DC projects like Arrow, including Gotham Knights, which, by the way, has nothing to do with the video game that's coming out in October.

Some say that Jensen Ackles will voice Nightwing next after starting with Jason Todd.

So, is Ackles playing Batman in Gotham Knights? Well, according to CinemaBlend, probably not.

According to the publication's sources, Ackles' unannounced DC project is a voicing gig for something different. Unfortunately, there's no info anywhere right now suggesting what this could be. But, we do know that DC is working on a new interconnected animated universe that started with 2020's Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Since the Justice League is all but expected to be formed in this continuity at some point, Ackles could be teasing his return as Batman in a future animated film.

The good news here is that the time is near for this year's DC FanDome to be held, so if we are lucky, we'll hear more about this by then.

In the meantime, you can watch Ackles as Soldier Boy on Amazon Prime Video's The Boys every Wednesday.
