James Gunn teases characters joining the DCU next

Five of the ten characters that are part of IGN's DCU Face-Off will be coming to future DC Studios projects.

The new slate of projects for the rebooted DC Universe was recently unveiled by James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, Gunn has more plans for the DCU, teasing that several more characters are coming in future projects.

Dick Grayson aka Nightwing topped IGN's DCU Face-Off.

IGN recently published a poll asking audiences which characters they think should join the new DCU. The winner of the poll was Dick Grayson aka Nightwing with a win percentage of 80.9%. He is followed by Martian Manhunter, Lobo, Brainiac, and Deathstroke. Finally, rounding out the top ten are Jason Todd aka Red Hood, The Court of Owls, Mister Freeze, and John Constantine.

Director James Gunn took notice of the poll and responded by teasing that five of the top ten characters may possibly be appearing in the DCU. Gunn posted an Instagram story saying, "Will 5 of 10 do?"

James Gunn responds to the IGN poll with an Instagram story.

The director did not specify which characters are coming to the DC universe but it's enough to get fans to look forward to seeing the likes of Martian Manhunter or Nightwing being part of the new DC Universe.

Who may be coming to the DC Universe?

Martian Manhunter had a minor role in Justice League.

Looking at the list, we already know that John Constantine is coming to the DC Universe. The long-awaited sequel of the 2005 cult classic is already being planned with Keanu Reeves returning as the exorcist John Constantine.

There are also rumors involving Jason Momoa being tapped to play the bounty hunter Lobo. The Aquaman star recently shared that he is staying with DC and has hinted at the possibility of another Aquaman project.

Dick Grayson’s Nightwing and Jason Todd’s Red Hood may be part of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Safran previously stated that members of the Bat-family will be included in the new Batman project "just 'cause we feel like they've been left out of the Batman stories in the theater for far too long."

Martian Manhunter appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League but only had a small role in the film and fans would surely want to see more of the character in the new look DC Universe.

Brainiac may be the perfect villain for Superman: Legacy.

On the other hand, Brainiac has yet to make his live-action debut for DC. One of the greatest Superman villains would make for the perfect antagonist in Superman: Legacy which kicks off Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, which opens in theaters on July 11, 2025. At the same time, James Gunn already teased the possibility of Deathstroke being part of the DCU.

At the end of the day, 5 out of 10 isn't half-bad, especially when you consider everything else that Gunn and Safran are planning for the DCU over the next few years.
