James Gunn debunks Silver Surfer cameo rumor in Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

There has been some speculation that the intergalactic superhero will make an appearance in the Holiday Special ahead of a rumored Disney+ short film.

James Gunn is one busy person, currently juggling his role as the co-CEO of DC Studios and promoting his final two movies with Marvel Studios, giving him unprecedented influence over the two biggest superhero universes in cinemas right now.

Director James Gunn responds on Twitter debunking rumors about a Silver Surfer cameo in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

The director has appeared in promotional engagements for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special where he recently addressed one of the many rumors surrounding the upcoming Disney+ release.

One supposed reviewer of the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special leaked information about the post-credits scene for the movie. The reviewer allegedly shared "watch the post-credit scene for a silver surprise." This hinted at the appearance of the Silver Surfer in the Holiday Special - though the attached Gif was much less subtle.

The director replied to the tweet to debunk the rumored appearance of the intergalactic villain/antiher/hero in the Disney+ special presentation. Gunn simply tweeted "False" as a response to the leaked information.

The debunking of the latest rumor regarding the Silver Surfer has left fans questioning when the character would make their appearance. Marvel routinely teases new characters in post-credits scenes of related movies.

When will we see the Silver Surfer in the MCU?

Silver Surfer
There are rumors that a Disney+ special presentation for Silver Surfer is coming out soon.

Rumors about the Silver Surfer coming to the MCU date back to Avengers: Infinity War. Curt Clendenin hinted that he was on the set of Infinity War, and fans have been speculating that he will be cast as Norrin Radd aka the Silver Surfer, a role previously played by Doug Jones.

Recently, there was speculation that Marvel Studios is working on a Disney+ special presentation format movie for the herald of Galactus. According to the rumor, the special presentation will come out before the upcoming Fantastic Four movie to serve as a prequel.

The rumors may also have been fueled by speculations that Doctor Doom would appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as the man pulling the strings behind the scenes. Nate Moore, the producer of the Black Panther sequel was asked about Doctor Doom in interviews.

There was talk that Doctor Doom would appear in the post-credits scene of Wakanda Forever, but those were unfounded. Only one post-credits scene was included in Black Panther 2, and the scene in question has some big implications for the future of the MCU if the speculations are true.

The rumored Silver Surfer cameo will surely not be a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 movie.

It is also unlikely that we will see Silver Surfer in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, as it serves as a conclusion for the series rather than setting the team up for a future in the MCU. The cast members have reportedly said that this will be the final movie for the original team.

If the rumors are true that a Silver Surfer special presentation is coming, then The Marvels or Thunderbolts movies would be the likely candidates for a Norrin Radd cameo. It could also come later on in Phase 6 with Deadpool 3.

However, if the rumored Silver Surfer special is not true, then it may be towards the end of the Multiverse Saga with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. It will depend on the plot of the Fantastic Four movie, which we do not have any information on as of writing.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will stream on November 25, 2022 on Disney+.
