The iPhone 14 Pro could have a 48MP camera in 2022

The iPhone 14 is still quite a ways away, but it appears that the rumor mill isn't resting anytime soon.

With the iPhone 13 just a few months into its launch, folks are already ready to jump onto the next iteration, the iPhone 14. Although Apple hasn't confirmed anything about the next iPhone yet, this hasn't stopped the rumor mill from churning out all sorts of intel about what features and upgrades the iPhone 14 could have.

The move to a 48MP camera for the iPhone 14 is big considering that the iPhone 13 only has a 12MP camera.

Having said that, the latest iPhone 14 rumor suggests that the iPhone 14 Pro models will come with a whopping 48-megapixel camera, with Apple planning to add a periscope lens in 2023 for the iPhone 15.

What kind of improvements will the iPhone 14 have over the iPhone 13?

Don't expect Apple to reveal official information about the iPhone 14 until it's ready to launch.

Apple tests out several features and technologies before even attempting to implement them on their phones. This means that whatever you might have heard or read about the iPhone 14 might not necessarily come true. Even Apple probably doesn't know what the final iPhone 14 will be like until it's much closer to its release. Simply put, you should take everything that you just read with a grain of salt; this speculation is less about reliable information and more about entertaining yourself with all the possibilities.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's talk about the claims by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that MacRumors reported on.

Kuo claims that the iPhone 14 Pro will have a 48MP camera with support for 8K video recording. In addition to this, Kuo says that the 8K videos will tie in nicely with Apple's upcoming AR/VR headset that's scheduled to be released in 2022 as well. Kuo also claims that Apple might add both a 48MP and 12MP camera to the iPhone 14 Pro, which wouldn't be unlike what Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra uses.

What is perhaps more interesting is that Kuo says Apple is reportedly already planning a totally brand new feature for 2023's iPhone 15. Kuo believes that Apple will add a periscope lens to the iPhone 15, which would help improve optical zoom range without making the smartphone bulkier like Huawei's P40 Pro.

So far, Kuo is the only one to mention these potential iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 features. Meanwhile, the more prevalent rumors involve Apple retaining the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes while ditching the iPhone mini. Also, several sources suggest that Apple is looking for a way to remove the notch from the phone completely while moving Face ID under the display.
