Infinity Ward plans overhaul of Call of Modern Warfare 2’s UI after fan backlash

Infinity Ward will redesign Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 UI due to numerous fans backlash.

According to reliable insider RalphsValve, Infinity Ward may overhaul Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s UI and UX following major criticism from fans. RalphsValve reported this news via his official Twitter handle @RalphsValve.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the fastest selling game in the franchise.

Modern Warfare 2 was recently released to many fans’ delight, with 91% of players giving it positive reviews on Google. The game set several new records, including selling over $800 million worth of copies in its opening weekend to become the fastest selling Call of Duty game ever.

Despite their love for the game, many players have had issues with the game’s UI with complaints about the menus, design, and accessibility. While some fans are fine with simply tagging the UI as confusing, some have gone as far as calling it the worst UI in the Call of Duty franchise.

Previous Call of Duty games had a UI where the modes and options appear in a list on one side of the screen. However, Modern Warfare 2 UI separates the game’s content into boxes. As a result, players have to scroll horizontally when searching for camos, attachments, and game modes.

Ralphs reported that, due to the huge criticism, Infinity Ward is working on splitting the game's update in stages. Ralph also reported that there were a few concerns regarding the game’s UI before its launch last week. In their words, the UI was portrayed as "difficult, and invasive to design goals" and the result of "time, coordination, and working from home."

Despite posting high sales numbers, many fans have complained about the game's UI.

Further, Ralph reported that some of the revision to Modern Warfare 2’s UI is "a work in progress, there’s a lot of moving pieces … updates have been well underway." Their source for this piece of information is an associate.

RalphsValve has a track record of reporting accurate Call of Duty information. Nevertheless, take this news with a grain of salt unless Activision or Infinity Ward confirms it.

Activision Blizzard released a DLC pack for Modern Warfare 2 as soon as it became available to play. Meanwhile, the game’s creators desire to make a spin-off based on the fan-favorite character, Simon "Ghost" Riley. Finally, it's still unclear what the publisher plans to do about the unexplained bans players have gotten lately.
