There is currently no confirmation of a specific release date for Guerilla Games' upcoming action role-playing game, Horizon Forbidden West, outside of a holiday 2021 release window.
However, it appears that Sony has already backtracked on its earlier statement.
Multiple reports are claiming that the Guerilla Games' follow-up to one of 2017's most pleasant surprises is not going to release in 2021.
Is Horizon Forbidden West delayed to 2022?
Forbidden West was the centerpiece of a State of Play showcase earlier this year, following an official reveal last year. The latest trailers for Forbidden West showed just how much more ambitious the sequel is compared to the original title.
Back then, PlayStation Studio boss Hermen Hulst confirmed that Forbidden West was expected to release some time during the holidays this year.
Now, there's reason to believe that Hulst won't be able to fulfill his earlier promise.
In addition, Grubb claims to have come across some brand new information. He is suggesting that Sony is going to hold an event in September when they will confirm the Forbidden West delay, before announcing the other games that are coming to the PS4 and PS5 this fall and beyond.
If true, then it wouldn't be too surprising.
There is a long list of games intended to launch in 2021 and that have been pushed back by months, if not an entire year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We also explained in an earlier article why it wouldn't be so bad to delay Forbidden West to 2022.
If it's any consolation, it's not like the PS4 and PS5 are lacking exclusives for gamers to sink their teeth into this year. In addition to Death Stranding Director's Cut and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, players can also look forward to Deathloop.
There's also the Abandoned game from BLUE BOX Game Studios that's been taking audiences for quite the ride these past few weeks.
