Hideo Kojima is not part of Metal Gear Solid 3 remake

This is disappointing news for fans that were hoping for the director's return to Konami after their nasty divorce last decade.

Kojima is currently working on Death Stranding 2.

Konami officially announced that the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is in development. Since then, fans of the series have been wondering if Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima will be returning for the remake.

Unfortunately, fans hoping for the return of the enigmatic auteur will find themselves disappointed with Konami's recent revelation.

Konami has confirmed to IGN that both Kojima and Metal Gear artistic collaborator Yoji Shinkawa aren't involved in the development of the remake.

"They are not involved," a Konami spokesperson confirmed. "However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports--for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection--so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world."

The studio confirmed that the "central role" will be taken by Konami developers who have been "involved in the production of the past [games in the] Metal Gear series." Konami will be collaborating with Virtuos, a studio that was "involved in the production of previous entries in the Metal Gear series." A previous leak pointed to Virtuos as the studio working on the Metal Gear remake.

Konami is partnering with Virtuos for the remake.

When Konami was asked why the studio opted to start with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the spokesman said that it is the first game based on the timeline.

"We chose Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater because it depicts the birth of Big Boss, which is the starting point of the Metal Gear series," the spokesman said. "Another reason is that many fans have been requesting a remake of this game for a long time."

It is not really surprising that Kojima won’t be involved in the development of the upcoming remake. The game director had a public falling out with Konami during the production of Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain.

Konami explained that it chose Metal Gear Solid 3 for a remake as it is the start of the timeline for the series.

It would have been awesome for Kojima to join the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. However, it will be just wishful thinking given how Konami distanced itself from the game director.

Kojima went on to form Kojima Productions. The studio is currently working on Death Stranding 2, the sequel to his first game outside of Konami. Death Stranding 2 will be coming exclusively to the PS5 alongside the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection. The collection brings the original Metal Gear Solid and remasters of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater later this year.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox X/S.
