A new Hellboy movie is coming out soon and fans will be happy to know that the character’s creator has given the film a thumbs up.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man has wrapped up principal photography according to comic book creator Mike Mignola. The film was announced just a few months ago with production starting in March. Even with the movie having such a short production period, Mignola is confident in the quality of the movie.
"So they’ve wrapped principal photography on the new HELLBOY movie," Mignola said in an Instagram post. "I wasn’t on set for this one but they have been nice enough to send me dailies and I have to say I have loved what I’ve been seeing. If fans have been waiting for a Hellboy film that is actually an adaptation of one of my stories I think they are finally going to get one."
He adds, "Congratulations to director Brian Taylor and a really wonderful cast—And to co-writer Chris Golden who did so much to figure out how to give the studio what they wanted and still keep true to the heart and soul of THE CROOKED MAN, my favorite of the Hellboy stories."
"I wish Richard Corben was still around to see this—They did a wonderful job bringing his really horrific character to life."
Richard Corben worked on the comic book art and cover of Hellboy: Crooked Man when it was released in 2008. The illustrator passed away on December 2, 2020, at the age of 80.
What we know about Hellboy: The Crooked Man
The upcoming reboot will be based on Mignola’s three-part comic book series of the same name. The movie will be set in the 1950’s in Appalachia where Hellboy is tracking down a "regional Devil." The film will be closer to a horror movie than previous iterations.
"His intention is to make a horror movie, so that'll be nice. That'll be interesting." Mignola said of the script for the upcoming film. "I read the new draft of the screenplay yesterday, and yes, it is definitely R. It's the first Hellboy script that I read and I went, 'Oh, it's a horror movie,' which is what I wanted. Taylor does not have a reputation as a horror movie director. But, so far, we've had two horror movie directors make Hellboy movies and we've never gotten a horror movie."
Brian Taylor was hired to direct the upcoming movie with Mignola and Christopher Golden writing the screenplay. The film casts Jack Kesy as the titular character. Jefferson White and Adeline Rudolph are the only other cast members that have been revealed.
With Mignola working closely with the team and giving his approval, it is safe to say that this will be a movie worth watching compared to the previous attempt to reboot the series. 2019’s Hellboy was a critical and commercial failure with director Neil Marshall stating that it was awful and going as far as disowning the film.
he previous movies had a more superhero adventure feel which we have plenty of these days with all the Marvel and DC films. Hopefully, this new take and direction will be well-received by fans of the character and outperform the first two movies directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Millennium Media has not yet announced a release date or distribution method for Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
