Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has set a new streaming record, according to Nielsen streaming rankings. The Rian Johnson creation recorded the most streaming minutes for a film in a week with 2.89 billion minutes. It achieved this feat in its first full week on Netflix from Sunday, December 26, to Sunday, January 1, and replaced Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2 which previously held the record with 2.73 billion minutes.

With a runtime of 189 minutes, Glass Onion’s recorded minutes mean streamers watched it a total of 20.76 million times.
All things considered, Glass Onion’s performance is hardly a surprise as the film was the darling of critics, viewers, as well as award organizations alike. It has an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and two Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture.
Apart from Glass Onion, only four other programs recorded over 1 billion streaming minutes. The Amazon Prime Video TV, Jack Ryan, held the number two position with 1.665 billion recorded minutes, while another Netflix program, Wednesday, came a very close third with 1.66 billion minutes. The remaining shows are yet another Netflix program, Emily in Paris, and the Peacock series starring Kevin Costner, Yellowstone, with 1.4 billion minutes and 1 billion minutes respectively.
Also, only four other feature films recorded over 500 million minutes for the final week of 2022. Of these four, Netflix’s top brass will be delighted to know that three were their creations as it signifies they still have a grip on the streaming industry despite their struggles in the first half of 2022.
The three Netflix films are Matilda: The Musical, which recorded 839 million minutes, The Invitation, which recorded 664 million minutes, and the foreign language film, Trolls, which recorded 501 million minutes. Apart from these three, the only other feature film to record over 500 million minutes was Disney’s science fiction adventure animation film Strange World, which is surprising since it bombed during its theatrical release.
Combined, below are the top ten projects that made up Nielsen’s top ten weekly ranking for December 26, 2022, to January 1, 2023:
