Skull & Bones

Skull and Bones is an upcoming naval action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Singapore and published by Ubisoft and is scheduled to be released between 2023–2024 for Amazon Luna, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

Plot and location

Skull and Bones is set in the vast waters of the Indian Ocean during the Golden Age of Piracy.
The game follows the pirate captains who refused the King's Pardon. These pirate captains chose their own path, sailing from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean to prey upon lucrative trade routes. They also battle against other pirate captains and other naval forces of the era for supremacy of the seas.

Gameplay

Skull & Bones focuses on the prevailing naval piracy, naval combat, and tactical gameplay. The game is played from a third-person perspective. Players will take control of their avatar as one of the pirate captains to sail across the Indian Ocean by playing solo or with other players.

There are different types of pirate ships to collect such as brigs, brigantines, frigates, sloops-of-war, sambuks, and padewakangs. Ships in Skull & Bones can be customized with weapons such as broadside and chase cannons, rockets, and mortars, and armors such as leather armor, metal armor, and spiked metal armor. There are more ship customizations like sails, figureheads, wheels, and other designs. Some customizations will be solely cosmetic, while others will have gameplay benefits.

Players can team up with other pirate captains to fight against opposing pirates and to survive their adventures in the ocean. The innovative wind system lets players sail faster, shoot further, avoid deadly blows, and position ships in battles to gain battlefield advantages.

During navigation and ship-to-ship combat, Players can use a ship's crow's nest and a spyglass to look for enemies and find their weaknesses. As players complete the variety of contracts that they acquire in their travels, their pirate captains will gain more experience and loot, which are essential for upgrading ships and weapons.

Visuals and other features

The multiplayer mode allows up to five players to compete in a 5v5 match in Disputed Waters. Another multiplayer mode is the Loot Hunt, allowing two teams of five players to compete for treasure hunting and collect as many treasure as possible.

Skull & Bones is available in two editions: Standard and Premium. The Standard Edition of the game contains the pre-order bonus of the Highness of the High Sea Pack, including the Notoriety Garb and Coronation Firework, while the Premium Edition includes The Ballad of Bloody Bones Collection, two new missions, digital soundtrack and artbook, and the Smuggler Pass token.
