Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an upcoming action-adventure superhero game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and will release only for the Sony PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.
It is the third game of the Marvel's Spider-Man game series, and it serves as a sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man in 2018 and the follow-up to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020. The new game will be featuring two Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, as the two player characters.
Plot and location
As with its first game, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 features the famous characters from the Spider-Man comic book series and other media. Most of the voice actors reprise their roles including Yuri Lowenthal as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Nadji Jeter as Miles Morales/Spider-Man as the two protagonists.
New voice actors are also casted as main villains of the game such as Jim Pirri as Kraven the leader of the Hunters, and Tony Todd as Venom, a deadly symbiote who bonds to Peter Parker and tried corrupting the Wall-Crawler. Tara Platt also reprises her role as Yuri Watanabe from the first game, but she transforms from being a police ally into a deadly vigilante as the Wraith in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be set again in Manhattan, New York City, but with the extension boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, which expands the adventure areas players can explore. The game follows the two Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, who are moving forward to a new chapter in their private lives and as the protectors of New York City against enemies such as Venom, Lizard, and Kraven, who threaten the city.
Gameplay
As with its predecessor, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an open world third-person action-adventure game, where the two playable characters, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, patrol and explore areas in New York City. The city itself consists of three major locations: Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. There are missions and enemies that the Spider-Men can encounter as they traverse these areas.
Both Spider-Men can now unlock new abilities and equip new suits and gadgets. The game introduces new suits such as the Venom symbiote suit, a special suit for Peter which grants him special web-based abilities and improves his combat strength that can defeat multiple enemies at once, and the Web Wings for traversing by gliding in the air, which can be equipped by both Spider-Men allowing them to continue traveling even in areas where shooting a webline to attach to a tall building is not possible, such as the suburbs.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 also introduces new gadgets, including the Web Line allowing players to further explore the environments and surprise enemies by getting the drop on them. Meanwhile, the Web Grabber allows them to pull multiple enemies into a single spot. With the proper positioning, players can perform Stealth Takedowns to sneak up on enemies and defeat them, getting bonuses for this feat.
Peter and Miles can freely switch between each other in the open world. The game includes three Skill Trees. Both have their own Skill Trees and new skills can be unlocked by leveling up. The first Skill Tree is for Peter's symbiote abilities, while the second Skill Tree is for Miles' blue bioelectric abilities and the third Skill Tree is the shared abilities between the two characters.
Visuals and other features
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is being offered with pre-order bonuses such as the early unlocks for the 3 color variants of Peter's Arachknight Suit and Miles' Shadow-Spider Suit, Web Grabber gadget, and +3 extra skill points.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is available as two special editions: Digital Deluxe and Collector's Editions. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with 2 sets of 5 unique suits for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, additional Photo Mode stickers and frames, 2 extra skill points, and the previously mentioned pre-order bonuses.
On the other hand, the Collector's Edition comes with the digital voucher code, a free steelbook case, and a 19-inch statue of two Spider-Men (Peter Parker and Miles Morales) and Venom.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will also be available as a Limited Edition Bundle which includes the PS5 console and the DualSense wireless controller.
