It's shaping up to be an interesting month for Wonder Woman actress, Gal Gadot. A recent report claims that the upcoming superhero film to be directed by Patty Jenkins has been canceled. But, as they say, when one door closes, another one opens.
Sources familiar with the Fast and Furious franchise have said that the actor will reprise her role as Gisele Yashar in the upcoming Fast X as reported by The Direct. If the leaked info is true, then Gadot will join fellow DC actors Jason Momoa and John Cena in the upcoming movie.
Gadot’s character Gisele sacrificed herself in the final action sequence in Fast and Furious 6. It can be recalled that she let go of Han to shoot a bad guy while the pair hung off the side of a plane. While there was no funeral, she was assumed dead.
Gisele first appeared in Fast and Furious 4, the fourth movie in the franchise as a former Mossad agent turned liaison for drug kingpin Arturo Braga. She falls in love with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and turns on her employer.
She reprised her role in Fast Five and Fast and Furious 6. During her stint with the crew, she had a romantic relationship with fellow member Han. After Han’s death in Fast 7, her photo was shown as a part of his belongings.
Mr. Nobody, played by Kurt Russell, mentioned having worked with Gisele in F9 while he was in the CIA. It was Gisele’s faith in Han that convinced Mr. Nobody that he could trust the former Yakuza member.
Resurrecting characters in the Fast franchise
Gisele’s return in Fast X shouldn't really come as a surprise. The Fast and Furious franchise has "killed off" key characters before only to bring them back later. One of the most notable deaths is that of Gisele’s love interest Han. He was originally killed off at the end of Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift after colliding with oncoming traffic during a car chase. Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) later claimed responsibility for Han's death. Then, we found out that Han had faked his own death with the help of Mr. Nobody.
The other notable death in the series was that of Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez). It was revealed at the start of Fast and Furious 4 that she became a double agent in an attempt to clear Dom’s records. She was killed by Fenix, one of Arturo Braga’s henchmen.
A deleted scene from Furious 7 revealed that Gisele found Letty after she was left for dead by Fenix. She took her to the hospital. She recovered but had temporary amnesia which led to the conflict with Toretto’s crew.
Future for Gal Gadot
The news of her returning in Fast X comes at a time of uncertainty for the actress. There is doubt that she will be returning to the DC Universe as Wonder Woman after her third solo movie as the Amazonian princess was canceled.
There are also reports that Gunn has removed Gadot's scenes as Wonder Woman along with Henry Cavill’s Superman. James Gunn has however denied that Gadot was "booted" from the DC Universe.
The actress will next appear in the spy-thriller Heart of Stone and as the Evil Queen in Snow White before her rumored appearances in Fast X on May 19.
