HBO Max has finally dropped the official trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter reunion special. The sneak peek offers fans their best look at the original cast, some twenty years since the first film, 2001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, first arrived in theaters.
What can Potterheads expect from the upcoming Harry Potter reunion special?
The mainline Harry Potter films might have ended a decade or so ago, but Warner Bros. continues to push through with several new projects set within the same magical universe. Case in point, the franchise's prequel series, Fantastic Beasts, is already in its third film, with The Secrets of Dumbledore just getting its first official trailer. However, the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special episode has got to be the most exciting in a long while.
Similar to HBO Max's Friends reunion, Return to Hogwarts, which was announced earlier this year, will bring the most prominent cast members of the Harry Potter franchise together for the first time in many years. Naturally, leading the way are the main characters, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
With the special set to arrive on New Year's Day, the popular streaming service is trying to drum up more hype by releasing an official trailer.
Unlike the first teaser, the official trailer contains actual footage straight from the special. Of course, we do not doubt that most fans will be excited to see the original trio talk about their experiences on the set as they spent around a decade together filming the entire thing. We wouldn't blame you if you felt teary-eyed or bawled your eyes out from the trailer alone. The fact that Warner Bros. recreated the actual Hogwarts setting for the special is just icing on the proverbial cake.
Even though most Potterheads have had years to comb through all the material related to the mainline series, we have a hunch that the special will offer new information. Even if it doesn't, it's just nice to see the cast all grown up after having spent several years away from each other doing their own thing. This is the franchise that started it all for most of the cast's respective careers, so it's amazing to see how far they have all come.
Plus, if you ever needed another reason to watch the reunion special, Warner Bros. might just use this opportunity to drop a new Hogwarts Legacy trailer.
