After months of waiting, we finally got our first Thor: Love and Thunder teaser trailer. Sure, we would have loved to see a full trailer, but this will need to do as Marvel Studios probably doesn't want to steal the spotlight from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

As expected from Taika Waititi's return in the director's chair, Thor 4 is shaping up to be a fantastic coming of age (of sorts) film that will explore what Chris Hemsworth's titular Norse god of Thunder has been up to since 2018's Avengers: Endgame. As the once-heir to the throne of Asgard discovers what it's like to become more than just the Son of Odin and the savior of the universe, he finds out that a lot has changed as well.

Thor Odinson will meet new faces in his latest solo outing, including a fellow lightning-wielding deity. Played by Russell Crowe, the teaser shows the Greek equivalent of Odin ruling over a posh sanctuary that most definitely is Mount Olympus. Meanwhile, just before the trailer ends, Thor is in a middle of a skirmish as Natalie Portman's Lady Thor arrives just in time to, presumably, lend him a hand.

In addition to these two big moments, Guns N' Roses' hit single, Sweet Child O'Mine, blares over a montage of Thor working his way into shape only to put down Stormbreaker for good. As Thor tries to "figure out, exactly who" he is, he'll try everything from being a pirate to doing his best impression of Chris Pratt's Star-Lord.

While Thor is off venturing about and trying to find himself, New Asgard's ruler, Valkyrie, doesn't seem happy with her new role. Tessa Thompson might be looking sharp wearing a suit and tie, but it's clear that she's far more suited to the rigors of combat than trying to navigate the intricacies and drama of politics.

Ultimately, the entire teaser feels like a setup for the arrival of Gorr the God Butcher, who will be played by Christian Bale. In the comic books, Gorr vows to strike down all gods because the deities on his planet did not protect his family. Judging by Thor's carefree and childlike disposition (albeit one that's well-deserved after all he went through), we don't think that Gorr will like what he sees.

Russell Crowe's Zeus definitely looks like someone who loves ruling.

Thor: Love and Thunder isn't expected to hit theaters until July 8. Before then, you can keep yourself busy by checking out Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters on May 6.
