Peacock unveils first poster for Twisted Metal TV series

Assuming Twisted Metal achieves half the success of HBO's The Last of Us, we can expect PlayStation to revisit the series again.

The Mad Max franchise may not be making its way to the small screen anytime soon, but fans of dystopian car chases with deranged characters will gladly settle for the upcoming Twisted Metal TV series. The upcoming live-action adaptation promises to offer similar thrilling elements as depicted in the recently dropped poster.

First revealed by IGN, the "high-octane action comedy" featuring Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz is set to release its first teaser trailer later today. Twisted Metal is an adaptation of the eponymous PlayStation game franchise and will premiere on Peacock with a ten-episode first season.

Here's the full poster of the Peacock series.

Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the series is centered around John Doe, a loquacious milkman suffering from amnesia. In order to survive, Doe is tasked with delivering a mysterious package across the barren world.

Accompanied by Quiet, a trigger-happy car thief, Doe embarks on a life-changing journey, battling against a horde of ruthless marauders in heavily armed vehicles to secure a chance at a better future. Along the way, they encounter a host of dangers, including Sweet Tooth, a maniacal killer who wears a flaming clown mask and drives a weaponized ice cream truck.

Although inspired by the PlayStation game franchise, the series will draw an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The show's script will be written by Michael Jonathan Smith, who will also assume the roles of showrunner and executive producer. Joining Smith in the production team are Will Arnett, Anthony Mackie, and Asad Qizilbash, the head of PlayStation Productions.

Sweet Tooth has appeared in all 10 titles of the Sony franchise.

In addition, Anthony Mackie is slated to portray John Doe, while Will Arnett will lend his voice to the character of Sweet Tooth. The rest of the cast comprises:

  • Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet
  • Thomas Haden Church as Agent Stone
  • Samoa Joe as Sweet Tooth
  • Richard Cabral as Loud
  • Neve Campbell as Raven
  • Mike Mitchell as Stu
  • Chloe Fineman as Bloody Mary

Production of the series concluded in August of last year, and it is scheduled to premiere later this year. Twisted Metal is the second project from PlayStation Productions to be released this year, following the recently concluded HBO series, The Last of Us.

HBO's The Last of Us set a very high standard for future game adaptations.

The post-apocalyptic drama series received critical acclaim and was a massive hit with audiences, resulting in its renewal for a second season. PlayStation Productions will undoubtedly be hoping to achieve comparable success with Twisted Metal.
