CinemaCon doesn't officially give awards to studios that show off the most footage from their upcoming movies. However, if there ever was an award, Paramount Pictures would definitely have it.

Perhaps taking cues from other studios that did something similar earlier this year, Paramount Pictures just dropped the first 15-minutes of the upcoming sequel to the 1986 action-drama film, Top Gun.

Although you might think that this is a huge chunk of Top Gun: Maverick to show right off of the bat, it's the perfect way to drum up hype for one of the few rare movies out there that has the potential to match the nostalgia that comes with it.

The first 15-minutes of Top Gun: Maverick is pure nostalgia

If the first 15 minutes of Top Gun: Maverick is any indication, the rest of the movie is going to be just as good.
If the first 15 minutes of Top Gun: Maverick is any indication, audiences are in for a good time.

It's been more than three decades after the original Top Gun film premiered back in 1986. A sequel never came until now and Paramount knows this for a fact. The studio is aware this isn't the type of movie that will easily appeal to younger audiences. In fact, even older Millennials will barely have any memory of watching Top Gun in theaters. Perhaps this is why the first 15-minutes is so good.

The best way to describe the first 15-minutes of Top Gun: Maverick is as the perfect mix of nostalgia. It gives several nods to the old movie and enough excitement to bring in new moviegoers. The only thing missing from Top Gun: Maverick's opening salvo is Tom Cruise, who unfortunately did not make an appearance.

It is also quite unfortunate that the 15-minute trailer is not available to the public. Instead, we're left with the countless reaction videos available online, as well as reports from those that watched it. Deadline, for example, describes in terrific detail everything that happened in the trailer.

Hopefully, Paramount makes the 15-minute trailer available for the public as soon as possible. Every day of not seeing it is a huge waste.

With that said, audiences don't exactly have to wait for Top Gun: Maverick for too long. The highly-anticipated Top Gun sequel is set to premiere on November 19. In addition to Tom Cruise, the film will also star Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, and Jon Hamm. Although the original Top Gun director, Tony Scott, is no longer with us, his replacement, Joseph Kosinski, proved in the first 15 minutes alone that he knows exactly what he is doing.

According to Paramount, the Top Gun: Maverick will be exclusive to theaters for 45 days. After this, the movie will be available for streaming on Paramount+.
