It has been three years since the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and fans are eagerly awaiting news about the sequel. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is reportedly now available for pre-order, sparking speculation that a big announcement is imminent.

Square Enix has been focused on the launch of Final Fantasy 16 and thus has been relatively quiet about the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake. With the game now out for several months, the studio may finally be ready to give fans more information about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

As reported by Genki_JPN, the game is now available for pre-order at several retailers which is good news for gamers eagerly awaiting the upcoming sequel - though this does not necessarily mean a full release is imminent.

Square Enix has not yet given a firm release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The studio has confirmed the game for an early 2024 release window. The game could be released anytime within the first four months of the next year.

The second entry into the planned trilogy was originally scheduled for release in 2023. However, Square Enix announced during Summer Game Fest in June that the game will be delayed to early 2024. The studio did not give a reason for the delay but postponing the release allows Final Fantasy 16 to attract more players.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released on April 10, 2020, and it is possible that Square Enix would go for a similar release window. With nothing being officially announced yet, it will be difficult to know for certain.

The upcoming sequel has been confirmed only for the PlayStation 5, but it will likely be a timed exclusive similar to Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the PS4. An enhanced version of the first installment was released on PC and PlayStation 5 in 2021. We will likely see a similar situation with Rebirth, releasing first on the PS5 and coming to PC a year later.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may not be coming to Xbox anytime soon. Phil Spencer recently spoke about meeting Naoki Yoshida and Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu in Japan to discuss the possibility of bringing Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 16 to the Microsoft console. However, Microsoft's Gaming boss has stopped short of announcing the titles for the Xbox.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second entry in a planned trilogy that retells the story of Final Fantasy 7. While it will certainly be helpful to play the first game, it isn't entirely necessary according to game director Motomu Toriyama. The developers have "made preparations so that players who did not get a chance to play the first game can fully enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth."

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to PS5 in early 2024.
