Fans are curious to find out more about the Capcom Countdown

The Japanese video game developer and publisher is teasing something big with a countdown to this weekend.

At this point last year, fans were eagerly awaiting more news about Resident Evil Village, the latest installment in Capcom's venerated seminal survival-horror franchise. Since then, the Japanese video game developer and publisher has released a handful of big games, but with several properties under its belt, fans felt that the studio could have done more.

Fans Curious About Capcom Countdown
Due to Resident Evil Village's success, Capcom promised fans that more DLCs for the game would be released.

Fast forward to today and hopeful fans are thinking that Capcom is gearing up for what could potentially be a heavier slate of games for 2022, as evidenced by an official countdown.

If you head on over to the official Capcom Games website, there is a separate page, Capcom Countdown, which, as the title suggests, counts down to zero later this week. Curiously enough, Capcom hasn't officially announced anything about the countdown, so all we know for now is that it's going to end in a couple of days. But, despite the relative lack of information, fans have been busy discussing what the countdown is for, such as an eventual reveal for the highly-anticipated Resident Evil Village DLC and/or confirmation of the long-rumored Resident Evil 4 remake.

Capcom held a Resident Evil showcase last year dedicated exclusively to the survival-horror franchise. With several other potential Resident Evil titles in development, including Resident Evil Outrage and Netflix's Resident Evil Cerberus, on top of what we've already mentioned, we wouldn't be surprised if the countdown is for an upcoming event is a celebration of the Resident Evil franchise.

Fans Curious About Capcom Countdown
A Street Fighter VI announcement wouldn't be the worst thing either.

Of course, being that Capcom is a large company with a treasure trove of properties, the countdown doesn't necessarily need to be related to Resident Evil. However, the ominous web page design does lend credence to the recent rumors. On the other hand, others believe that it's hinting at a Street Fighter game announcement. Because the countdown coincides with the Street Fighter Pro Tour final and the franchise is celebrating its 35th-anniversary this year, it would only feel natural for Capcom to announce the next mainline installment in the fighting game series.

At the end of the day, only Capcom knows what the event is going to be for. All fans can do is wait for whatever Capcom reveals and hope that the company brings good news for its most popular video game franchises.
