EA to delist several Battlefield games

The original announcement included Mirror's Edge as part of the games that are candidates for delisting but has since been corrected.

Battlefield 1943 will become unplayable after December 8.

EA has a lot of plans for the Battlefield franchise but, as the company moves forward, it needs to free up resources and server space for newer titles.

EA announced earlier that it will delist several older Battlefield titles and Mirror’s Edge, much to the disappointment of its fanbase.

"As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, Bad Company 1 & 2, and Mirror’s Edge, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end," EA wrote.

According to the post, the said games will be delisted from the digital storefront on April 28. The servers for these games will also be permanently shutting down on December 8.

Bad Company 2's single-player campaign will still be playable after the server shut down.

"While these titles hold a special place in our heart, we’re now looking forward to creating new memories alongside you as we shift our focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences," DICE said of the plans to sunset the Battlefield titles.

EA has shut down the servers for several titles in the last six months, including Mirror's Edge last January. But, don't worry, as we've already mentioned, DICE has lofty ambitions in the FPS market and it wants to take the Battlefield franchise to new heights.

General Manager Rebecka Coutaz said last year that the studio is "focusing on Battlefield 2042."

She adds, "There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we’re going for."

EA recently confirmed that DICE will support Ridgeline Games in developing a single-player Battlefield campaign. The newly formed internal studio is being led by Halo creator Marcus Lehto.

Bad Company 1 is being delisted on April 28.

DICE will also be developing the next Battlefield multiplayer game while continuing support for Battlefield 2042. Then there is also a new leak that suggests DICE will release Year 2 content for the first-person shooter.

EA has updated the blog post to remove references to Mirror’s Edge. The studio clarified that the inclusion of Mirror’s Edge was erroneous.

"An earlier version of this announcement included Mirror’s Edge," EA said. "That was an error. We currently have no plans to remove Mirror’s Edge from digital storefronts."

Bad Company and Bad Company 2’s single-player campaign will still be playable after EA takes down the servers. However, Battlefield 1943 will no longer be playable as it is an online-only game.
