Just when you thought the Bad Boys saga had reached its peak, the rebellious duo, Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, are gearing up to take us on another wild ride, which, according to a new report, is going to be a laughter riot.
Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were relatively under the radar before the release of Bad Boys for Life, but that all changed when the buddy cop action flick raked in a whopping $426 million worldwide. Having announced themselves as a duo to watch in the action genre, the successful filmmakers are set to return to helm the untitled Bad Boys 4 film.
Arbi and Fallah discussed the upcoming film in a new episode of The Playlist's The Discourse podcast, stating:
"Well, you know, the title that we like – I don't know that they're going to go for it yet – would be like 'Bad Boys Ride or Die' because 'Bad Boys 4 Life' is already taken. We didn't know there was going to be a fourth one, you know?"
"But yeah, what's going to happen in this one is, I think that there's going to be way more comedy. The third one had the dramatic tone. With this one, it's really our purpose to get people laughing and having a good time in the theater. Martin [Lawrence] is going to a higher level in this one. This is the culmination of the Marcus Burnett arc."
Following Will Smith's controversial Oscar slap, many speculated that the future of Bad Boys 4 was now uncertain. But, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Smith somehow clawed his way back into the the favor of Jerry Bruckheimer, who asserted that Smith's rash actions should not define him. Echoing this sentiment, Sony executive Tom Rothman affirmed that this was "an example of a very good person having a very bad moment in front of the world."
Aside from the title that the directors have teased, not much else is known about the plot of Bad Boys 4. However, many cast members have been revealed, including Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nunez, John Salley, Tasha Smith, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhea Seehorn, and Joyner Lucas, with the latter trio cast in undisclosed roles.
Production in Atlanta began back in April, but the whole operation came to an abrupt halt in July due to the still-ongoing writers and actors' strike. Initially, Bad Boys 4 had its release date set for June 14 next year, but it now looks like Sony Pictures may need to adjust this date due to the ongoing strike, which currently shows no signs of reaching a resolution.
I mean I will watch it but I really want fresh new ideas in movies. These guys are so old now.
I can't see it coming out in June. I am guessing the strike will push it back enough to bump it to 2025. This is a summer movie.
