Guillermo Del Toro already hard at work on star-studded Frankstein

The Frankenstein film is among the ongoing projects that Guillermo Del Toro is currently working on for Netflix.

Guillermo Del Toro is wasting no time after his recent Academy Award win. He's already in the middle of his next project, Frankenstein, which is expected to have a star-studded cast.

According to Variety, the Mexican filmmaker is in talks with Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth for currently-undisclosed roles in the film. Like his previous Oscar-winning film, Pinocchio, Frankenstein will be produced by Netflix as part of Del Toro's multi-year agreement with the streaming service, which he signed in 2020.

Based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, the details of Del Toro's retelling of the story are yet to be revealed. Pinocchio, which won Best Animated Feature at this year's Academy Awards, was a project close to Del Toro's heart, and he has expressed similar sentiments about Frankenstein, claiming to have a "Frankenstein fetish to a degree that is unhealthy," and stating that Shelley's novel is "the most important book of my life."

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio also won Best Animated Feature Film at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

Although Del Toro is known for his recurring collaborations with actors such as Ron Perlman and Doug Jones, he has yet to collaborate with Garfield, Isaac, or Mia. Andrew Garfield's most recent projects include appearances in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home, as well as the true crime TV miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven on Hulu.

Mia Goth has recently appeared in Brandon Cronenberg's sci-fi horror film Infinity Pool, as well as Ti West's slasher films X and Pearl. Both X and Pearl are part of the X film series, with a third installment titled MaXXXine currently in production and Goth set to reprise her role.

Oscar Isaac also starred in Denis Villeneuve's 2021 epic sci-fi, Dune.

Meanwhile, Oscar Isaac has a full plate of upcoming projects. In addition to starring as Solid Snake in the upcoming film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, the Guatemalan-born American actor has been cast in Martin McDonagh's untitled project alongside Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell. He is also set to star in and produce The Great Machine, an adaptation of DC Comics Ex Machina.
