Deathloop is coming to the Xbox Series S/X on September 2022

One of the best games of 2021, Deathloop's PS5 exclusivity ends exactly a year after it was first launched.

Deathloop was one of the best games to be released for the PS5 this year. Unfortunately, while the game was nominated for the Game of the Year award, it probably didn't get as much credit as it deserved. You can blame that on it being a PS5 exclusive and the fact that there aren't that many PS5 units to go around.

If not for It Takes Two, Deathloop would have ran away with The Game of the Year award at TGA 2021.

Thankfully, Deathloop might just get a second wind exactly a year after it was released, as it heads to the Xbox Series S/X.

Is Deathloop heading to the Xbox Game Pass?

Deathloop is easily one of the most innovative games to be released this 2021.
Deathloop is easily one of the most innovative games to be released this 2021.

Deathloop was Arkane Studios' last game before Microsoft officially acquired its parent company, ZeniMax Media, earlier this year. The game, which stars an assassin named Colt opposite another equally lethal hired killer in Juliana, sees the two play a game of cat and mouse on an island that reverts to its original state after 24 hours.

Colt's goal is to complete all of his hits in time. Otherwise, Colt will start over again. Throughout the game, an AI-controlled Juliana will hunt Colt down. Other players can also join other active games and play as Juliana.

Despite being nominated for the GOTY award this 2021 and doing well among critics, Deathloop did not sell well for an Arkane Studios game. It's easily one of the studios' weaker entries in terms of units sold.

With that said, a release on the Xbox Series S/X (and possible Xbox Game Pass) could help change this.

As you can see from the tweet above, Deathloop is going to release on "other consoles" on September 14, 2022. Because it is a next-gen exclusive, the "other consoles" that the ad is talking about could only be the Xbox Series S/X. Of course, we could be mistaken as Arkane might also be working on releasing the game on the Nintendo Switch, but we highly doubt it. Arkane has its hands full with Redfall, which is an Xbox Series S/X exclusive and the studio's first game following the Microsoft acquisition.

It's not unusual for games to see a surge in popularity after releasing on other platforms. Deathloop could go through the same thing, especially if it launches on the Xbox Game Pass as well.

In the meantime, Sony can hold on to Deathloop and other title made by a ZeniMax Media studio a little longer. In addition to Arkane Studios' Deathloop, PlayStation also secured the exclusive rights to Tango Gameworks' Ghostwire: Tokyo. The upcoming action-adventure game from the makers of The Evil Within is expected to release in spring 2022.
