Peter Safran and James Gunn have revealed the title and release date of the planned sequel to Matt Reeves’ superhero film, The Batman.

The bosses of the newly minted DC Studios made this revelation during a press event on Monday, January 30 at the Warner Bros. lot in California, which they organized to unveil the first part of Chapter 1 of their new DC Universe tagged Gods and Monsters.

However, they confirmed that Matt Reeves’s The Batman Part II and Todd Phillips’s The Joker: Folie à Deux, which premieres on October 3, 2025, and October 4, 2024, respectively, will remain standalone projects that are unconnected to their DC Universe. They also revealed that these projects, alongside J.J. Abrams’s Black Superman project, and others that are not part of their main DC Universe and instead will exist under a new category tagged DC Elseworlds.

The Batman Part II will see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as the titular character. It will also see Matt Reeves return as the film's director and co-writer alongside Mattson Tomlin. Apart from the title and release date, Gunn and Safran didn't give any other detail on the planned film. As a result, there is no information on the cast members or the plot.

Apart from Pattinson, The Batman starred Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, John Turturro, Paul Dano, and Jeffrey Wright as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Alfred Pennyworth, Carmine Falcone, Edward Nashton/Riddler, and James Gordon respectively.

The Batman spawned a spinoff titled The Penguin that will see Colin Farrell reprise his role as the character from the film.

The Batman was a critical and commercial success as it pulled in mostly positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an 85% approval score and grossed $770.9 million at the box office against a $200 million budget.

As a result of the film’s success, Warner Bros. greenlit two sequels, one of which is The Batman Part II. It also spawned a couple of spinoffs, including The Penguin, a television series starring Colin Farrell as the titular character. Reeves directed the film based on a screenplay jointly written by himself and Peter Craig. Reeves also served as one of the producers with Dylan Clark.

James Gunn didn't reveal more details about the other projects that are part of Matt Reeves' BatVerse.
