DC animated film Justice League: Warworld scores an R rating

Justice League: Warworld is the sixth film in DC’s Tomorrowverse animated franchise, which began at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020.

DC’s forthcoming animated film Justice League: Warworld has received a positive update ahead of its release later this year as a new report reveals it has been assigned a rating by the Motion Picture Association.

Justice League: Warworld will see Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman unite to save a planet from oppression.

According to Bloody Disgusting, which broke the news, the animated DC film has been rated R for what is purported to be "Some bloody violence." The rating implies that the film has some violent content and while children under the age of 17 can watch it, they should do so in the company of their parent or guardian.

Summary

Justice League: Warworld has been rated R for containing violent content and is suitable for children under 17 accompanied by an adult.

Justice League: Warworld is the sixth film in DC’s shared universe tagged Tomorrowverse. It's also the second film from the franchise to receive an "R" rating. The film’s events will take place after that of Legion of Super-Heroes which had made its debut earlier this year. Justice League: Warworld will follow the three core members of the Justice League and their adventures on the gladiatorial planet known as Warworld.

While there is no concrete plot detail, Justice League: Warworld’s logline reads, "Until now, the Justice League has been a loose association of superpowered individuals. But when they are swept away to Warworld, a place of unending brutal gladiatorial combat, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the others must somehow unite to form an unbeatable resistance able to lead an entire planet to freedom."

Justice League: Warworld sees Darren Criss voice Superman, Stana Katic voice Wonder Woman, and Jensen Ackles voice Batman. The film also features Ike Amadi, Troy Baker, Matt Bomer, Robin Atkin Downes, Rachel Kimsey, and Teddy Sears as the voices of Martian Manhunter/J’onn J’onzz, Jonah Hex, Old Man, Mongul, Mariah Romanova, Warlord respectively with Roger C. Cross, Brett Dalton, Trevor Devall, John DiMaggio, Frank Grillo, David Lodge, and Damian O’Hare starring in other roles.

Justice League: Warworld is slated to arrive this summer.

Justice League: Warworld was helmed by Jeff Warmester, who previously worked on Legion of Super-Heroes, based on a script by Josie Campbell, Jeremy Adams, and Ernie Altbacker. Kimberly S. Moreau and Jim Krieg serve as producers.

In other DC news, Jim Lee, former comics artist turned executive, was recently promoted to president of DC Comics. Lee is the brain behind DC’s recent resurgent comic lines Rebirth and The New 52 and many will agree that his promotion is well deserved. Also, Frank Grillo, who voiced Agent Faraday in Justice League: Warworld, is joining its high-profile counterpart, the DC Universe. The actor, who plied his trade with the MCU until recently, will star as an untitled character in an upcoming film titled Creature Commandos.

Justice League: Warworld will arrive at a yet-to-be-announced date this summer.
