Few Hollywood names are synonymous with the words "big", "burly", "charismatic", and "athletic" like Dave Bautista. So, is it all that surprising for audiences to fan-cast him as part of Gears of War? It also helps that Dave Bautista is vocal about his desire to join Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of Microsoft's marquee cover shooter franchise.

Bautista recently sat down with Variety to talk about his latest movie, Knock at the Cabin. When asked about his comments on the Gears of War movie, Bautista had this to say:
I really hope they will. It’s a part that I’ve sought after for years and I feel like I could bring a lot of heart to Marcus Fenix. I really would. I think I would do that part justice. I feel confident in it, so hopefully it’ll come my way and we’ll be having this conversation in a different way sometime.
Hollywood hasn't always had the best time with casting passionate actors into "obvious" roles. Case in point, fans were sure that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would nail it as Black Adam. Instead, the movie flamed out and the Brahma Bull is already out of the DC Universe.
But, what makes Bautista different is that he's pitched studios of him starring in a Gears of War film for a long time. Also, Bautista is technically already part of Gears of War after appearing as an alternative skin to Marcus Michael Fenix in Gears 5.
So, the only question now is, why hasn't Netflix called Bautista? It's not like these two don't have a working relationship - Bautista starred in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead.
In an ideal world, Bautista would play Marcus in Netflix's live-action adaptation of Gears of War, with Terry Crews signing on as Cole Train. If we're lucky, Bautista could pull in Jason Momoa to play a part as well, as the two will co-star in an upcoming buddy cop movie. The idea of these three starring together in a Gears of War film sounds like the kind of brainless fun that could spawn an entire cinematic franchise.
Speaking of Gears of War, one name that the franchise creator doesn't want to be associated with the in-development film is Chris Pratt. Also, The Coalition is reportedly working on Gears 6 at the moment. Finally, a remastered collection of the original Gears of War games is expected to come out soon.
