Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service continues to prove its value every month. After securing Outriders and MLB The Show 21 at their respective launch dates, Xbox Game Pass will welcome yet another new game to its library at launch - Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance.
Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a fantasy action game developed by Tuque Games. It was first announced and revealed at The Game Awards 2019.
Xbox Game Pass Secures Third Launch Title
Previously, Xbox Game Pass was just a library for first-party Xbox games and classics. However, in recent years, Microsoft has been putting more effort to make Xbox Game Pass more attractive. Case in point, Xbox Game Pass subscribers now get multiple benefits like EA Play, as well as Spotify Premium for a limited time.
With that said, among the newest additions to the Xbox Game Pass is third-party studios releasing their brand new games on the online video game subscription service.
Tuque Games' Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance was set to launch on June 22 on the Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, as well as PlayStation 4 and 5. But, now, thanks to the partnership with Wizards of the Coast, the Xbox Game Pass will add Dark Alliance to its library on the same day it will launch on multiple platforms.
As part of the partnership, Dark Alliance will also be supported on the PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, as well as via xCloud, for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. The partnership announcement also confirms that Dark Alliance will support four-player co-op gameplay between PC and console players.
What Is Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance?
Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a third-person action role-playing game. It serves as a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Dark Alliance 2. Both classic titles were also based on Dungeons & Dragons. Similar to both Dark Alliance and Dark Alliance 2, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance will take place in the same Forgotten Realms timeline.
Dark Alliance is set in the frozen lands of Icewind Dale and will let players choose from one of the four unique heroes available in the game.
Each hero will come with a different set of special abilities and movements. Although it is a single-player title, Dark Alliance will let players team up in up to groups of four. As previously mentioned, Dark Alliance will support cross-play across PCs and consoles.
Dark Alliance is just one of two Dungeons & Dragons games set to release in late 2021. The other, Baldur's Gate 3, is currently available as an Early Access title. The game is expected to release on or before October 2021. An untitled Dungeons & Dragons game by Hidden Path Entertainment is also currently in development. Meanwhile, the Dungeons & Dragons film just started filming.
TLDR; it's a good time to be a Dungeons & Dragons fan.
