Just a few days away from the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, many fans of the series that have invested time and money into Modern Warfare 2 are worried that they will again be starting from scratch when the new game releases - however, an announcement is here to put those fears to rest.
According to a Call of Duty blog post, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have a feature that the devs call "carry forward", bringing content from the previous game to the upcoming title. The publisher also detailed what content will be included and excluded from the system.
"The term "Carry Forward" simply refers to content currently available to players in Modern Warfare II and the current version of Call of Duty: Warzone (such as weapons and cosmetic content, including Bundles, Operators, and other rewards and unlocks from the game), and how much of it will be accessible in Modern Warfare III," Activision wrote.
"Content previously described — weapons and cosmetic content, examples of which are shown in the above image — that has been previously unlocked or is currently available to players in MWII, will carry forward between MWII and MWIII."
It is great news for players who have spent countless hours grinding Orion weapon camos and Prestige badges for Moder Warfare 2. Many gamers have also participated in events that rewarded them with limited-edition cosmetics, or have bought the cosmetic bundles including the $30 seasonal BlackCell packs.
However, not all content available in Modern Warfare 2 will be coming to the new game. According to Activision, a small amount of content may be unavailable for players in Modern Warfare 3. If a specific vehicle like the newly introduced Tactical Amphibious Vehicle isn't in the new game, then the skins won't be in the upcoming installment. The same goes for Tactical and Lethal Equipment.
The publisher specifically mentions that War Tracks will not be carried forward to the new game. We suspect that Activision only licensed these tracks for one game thus it would be a copyright violation to add them to Modern Warfare 3.
Cross-progression will also be available for weapons in Modern Warfare 2 and 3. The weapon levels and attachments will carry over to the new game. Players can choose to level up an M4 in Modern Warfare 3 and the progress will be reflected in Modern Warfare 2.
Activision will be adding a label to store bundles to make it easier for players to identify which cosmetic items will carry over to the upcoming game. However, the blog also states that any content purchased in Modern Warfare 3 will not be available in the previous title as there is no "carry back" functionality.
Activision Blizzard is set to reveal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on August 17. The upcoming installment will launch on November 10, 2023.
So long as this doesn't give an unfair advantage, it is fine.
Is this some sort of scheme to get people from skipping out on previous titles or something??
i mean cool i guess but i returned MW2 cause it was trash
