Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2022 leak teases return of familiar faces

More information continues to leak about Infinity Ward's Call of Duty title for 2022, including details about the game's single-player campaign.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is scheduled to release in the next few days. However, it appears that Activision is already busy working on next year's Call of Duty. Details about Infinity Ward's turn in the spotlight have already started leaking.

It appears that 2022's Call of Duty game is a remaster of Modern Warfare 2 but with more added content.

More details about Modern Warfare II emerge

Given the success of 2019's remastered Modern Warfare, we're not surprised Infinity Ward is doing a follow-up for 2022.

Activision and an annual Call of Duty release are one of the few constants in the gaming industry. The publisher follows a cycle of development where a different studio takes the lead every year for a different Call of Duty title. Of course, the cycle isn't perfect. This was the case when Infinity Ward worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone back to back in 2019 and 2020, respectively. However, things have normalized now.

Since Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games already have had their turns, fans are now expecting Infinity Ward to take the lead once again.

Earlier this year, a leaker revealed the name for 2022's Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Now, a different leaker is unveiling more clues about the Narcos-inspired campaign of Modern Warfare II and its multiplayer modes. In particular, the most interesting detail is the return of familiar faces such as Captain Price, Ghost, General Shepherd, as well as Soap and Roach. @RalphsValve also claims the game will have "new facets of companion interactivity". They add that the player's "choices will determine who will live or die".

Another noteworthy part of @RalphsValve's infodump is the lineup of maps for Modern Warfare II. The leak lists the return of classic fan-favorite maps like Favela, Terminal, Highrise, Quarry, as well as Shipment.

Highrise was one of the most requested maps for Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare reboot that was released in 2019. Unfortunately, fans never got a chance to see the old map in its remastered glory. However, it appears that Activision and Infinity Ward took the fan feedback into account and are now reportedly planning to include it in Modern Warfare II's list of maps.

Of course, this should already go without saying, but Activision nor Infinity Ward has confirmed any details for 2022's Call of Duty game.
