Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 represents the dawn of a new era for Call of Duty. Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward have revealed many details about the upcoming game, as well as Warzone 2.0.

As we get closer to the release of Modern Warfare 2, we're starting to find out more about the premiere title.

For its latest reveal, Infinity Ward let us in on the modes that we should expect to come to MW2 on Friday, October 28.

Of course, before we get to the new info, let's start with what we know already. The first Call of Duty mode, the single-player campaign, features the return of Task Force 141. The length isn't anything special but the rumor has it that Modern Warfare 2 will get a story DLC next year. Speaking of next, the conclusion of the MW2 campaign sees players work alongside a teammate in narrative-driven Special Ops missions.

Now, for the fun part.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is expected to receive two years of post-launch support.

According to Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare 2 will feature both 32v32 and 6v6 gameplay as well as new modes. The chief of them is Knockout and Prisoner Rescue. Infinity describes the former as a "Gunfight meets Core multiplayer experience" where teams will battle it out over a bag of money that spawns randomly in one of three locations. The latter is a familiar game mode for those who've played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege as it pits one rescue-oriented team against another that holds all of the prisoners hostage.

Finally, a new Big Battle Map mode (32v32) is Ground War Invasion, which pits a mix of AI and players against each other to see who will reach 2,000 points first.

Here's a complete list of the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer modes returning for MW2:

  • Ground War (32v32)
  • Free-for-All
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Headquarters
  • Control
  • Search and Destroy

We'll likely find out more about Modern Warfare 2 (and Warzone 2.0) in the coming days. For now, you'll want to circle your calendars for when the Modern Warfare 2 pre-load starts.
