Season 4 of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Warzone just dropped and calling it substantial is putting it mildly. The new season (aptly given the hype title 'Brace for Impact') offers up four multiplayer maps, new weapons, new key points in Verdansk, and a new Outbreak quest that leads into the Mauer der Toten zombie apocalypse map. Treyarch certainly did a lot of work on this new season and COD players will have a lot to do after this new update.
Check out all the details so far about the Season 4 Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Warzone update!
Season 4 Story Elements
A masked mercenary is only the beginning. 🎭
— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) June 15, 2021
The in-story events progresses the extraction of Russel Adler courtesy of Frank Woods. But the forces of Perseus was not going take it lying down. Apparently, Perseus had a backup plan with a mysterious masked Perseus agent making a daring raid to take control of CIA satellites:
We see that agent, a menacing metal-faced assailant, breaching a CIA Ground Station compound in South Africa on June 26, 1984. He reaches the control room, where he takes a satellite specialist alive and phones in Stitch, who guides the hostage into de-orbiting two CIA satellites at specific points in Verdansk and Algeria. As these satellites hurtle down to earth, the masked Perseus agent strangles the life out of his victim on command, leaving no loose ends in Perseus’s path to world domination.
One of the satellites goes down in the area of Algiers and Adler, despite being only recently recovered, leads a team to recover whatever they can from the satellite. But all is not as it seems.
The story events sets the stage for the Season 4 limited time event called Ground Fall. In it, Call of Duty Operators will be trying to accomplish objectives related to the satellite fall and recovery. Operators can acquire Calling Cards, Emblems, and Satellite Weapon Charm, as well as a chance at an Epic Secondary Weapon Blueprint which has a bit of a sci-fi flair.
Season 4 Battle Pass
Coinciding with the release of the Black Ops Cold War and Warzone updates is, of course, the Season 4 Battle Pass. And it provides a whopping 100 new tiers of content for skins and weapons!
Battle Pass Season 4 owners will get the C58 Assault Rifle and the MG 82 Light Machinegun, a fully automatic Nail Gun (acts as a special type of SMG), the OTs 9 submachine gun, and the Mace melee weapon (which will likely be popular to fans of medieval combat).
While the C58 and MG 82 are available at launch, the Nail Gun, OTs 9 SMG, and the Mace will all be acquired by completing challenges or by picking up the bundles with their blueprints from the in-game store.
Three new operators are being added to Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 4: Jackal, Salah, and Weaver.
Jackal is the poster boy of Season 4, being the Perseus mercenary responsible for the takeover of the CIA satellites. He is available as a Warsaw Pact Operator at launch. Something unique about Jackal is that he is available as the launch Operator at Tier 0, but progressing the Season Pass to Tier 100 will unlock an Ultra Rare Skin.
The second and third Operators for Season 4 are NATO’s Salah (a counterterrorist and hostage rescue specialist) and CIA Clandestine Service Officer Grigori Weaver. Both will be available later in the season.
New Multiplayer Maps
Four multiplayer maps are being added with associated team builds.
Amsterdam (2v2 & 3v3)
Comprised of a 2 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 3 multiplayer option, this is a close quarters map for Gunfight (random loadouts) or Face Off (custom gear and perk builds).
Collateral and Collateral Strike (12v12 & 6v6)
Both are set in the Algerian map where the CIA satellite crashed from space. Collateral is a 12 vs. 12 encounter, while Collateral Strike is a smaller 6 vs. 6 battle. Collateral also includes vehicle combat and air-to-ground tactics.
An old favorite returning to the game, the yacht map will have 6 vs. 6 matches. Old veterans should be happy with this map’s inclusion.
The second classic map returning from the vault, the paintball themed 6 vs. 6 map is a favorite since Black Ops II.
Aside from the multiplayer maps, Season 4 Brace for Impact will also add the Multi-Team Sat-link Mode (where teams of Operators have to keep satellite links powered up as long as possible) and the One in the Chamber mode where Operators only get a single bullet in the chamber. For those who did not play it in the original Black Ops, One in the Chamber’s single bullet is extremely lethal. And even if you miss, the melee attacks are virtual insta-kills. However, you do get up to three lives and you recover one bullet for each kill.
The last mode to be added for Season 4 is Capture the Flag. Old but gold, Capture the Flag (or CTF) has been around since the first FPS multiplayer games came about. This mode will come later in the season.
Scorestreak - The Hand Cannon
The Desperate Measures mission brought the Hand Cannon, and now Scorestreaks get it, too. The ludicrously powerful pistol only has 8 bullets, but deals immense damage on Operators and vehicles. Use it wisely!
Outbreak: Zoo and Mauer Der Toten
A new region for the popular zombie Outbreak gameplay will also open. Located deep within the Ural Mountain area, this Zoo will provide new story intel related to the Dark Aether plotline. This will lead to the Mauer der Toten map in the middle of the season. Mauer der Toten will be set after Operation Excision and feature an expansive urban map in East Berlin during the zombie Outbreak.
Battle Pass gifting had been implemented through the Call of Duty Companion App, but Season 4 of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will bring a new way to send gifts. Players will be able to send Battle Pass, Battle Pass Bundles, and other Store Bundles. This will be available in Black Ops Cold War at launch, while Warzone players can get the gifting function later in the season.
The system will require enabling 2-factor authentication on players’ Activision accounts.
