Bungie announces Destiny 2: The Final Shape showcase

Much to the surprise of many fans, Cayde-6 will be making a return to Destiny 2 in The Final Shape expansion.

Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness Saga is coming to an end. To mark its conclusion, Bungie has announced a standalone event for the upcoming The Final Shape expansion during the recently concluded PlayStation Showcase.

Cayde-6 is coming back after several years of absence from the series.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape will wrap up the decade-long story arc and will bring back a beloved character. Returning to the first-person shooter is the Exo Hunter Cayde-6. Nathan Fillion is coming back to voice the popular character that was killed off in Destiny 2: Forspoken.

The showcase trailer for The Final Shape shows Warlock Ikora sitting by the fire and reflecting on her adventures since the first game. It is revealed that she is conversing with Cayde-6, who then proceeds to look out at the vastness of the planet they are on.

"Yeah, me too kiddo. But hey, I’m here now," Cayde-6 exclaims. "Wherever the hell here is."

The return of Cayde-6 is a huge surprise for long-time Destiny players. The Exo Hunter is a fan-favorite character who often adds humor to the story. Many players hoped he would return to Destiny 2, and Bungie came through.

Cayde-6 was killed during the events of the Forspoken expansion, barely a year after Destiny 2 came out in 2017. He was eliminated by Prince Uldren Sov, who also met his demise but was reborn as a Guardian and eventual successor of the Exo Hunter.

Uldren, now known as Crow, is wandering the world and struggling to make friends after being labeled as Cayde-6’s killer. It will be interesting to see if the two meet up in the upcoming expansion and how they would react to seeing each other again.

In the trailer, we see the huge glowing pyramid that The Witness used in its attack on The Traveler. The teaser seems to hint that the Guardians will head out in that direction in The Final Shape.

Cayde-6's death was one of the most memorable scenes in Destiny 2.

Bungie revealed that the upcoming Destiny Showcase event will be on August 22. The developer will surely give us more details on what to expect in The Final Shape expansion during the event. We may even get a preview of what is in store for the future of Destiny as the Light and Darkness Saga ends.

Destiny 2 is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. We expect The Final Shape to release sometime in early 2024.

As for Bungie, the studio finally revealed one of its first new projects in a long-time and it's a revival of a classic series for current-gen platforms.
