What do you get when you throw in Lucasfilm Games, MachineGames of Wolfenstein fame, and Todd Howard in a blender together? A New Indiana Jones game, that's what.
Lucasfilm Games, the video game subsidiary of Lucasfilm, first announced the new Indiana Jones game in early 2021. MachineGames, the studio known for its work on the Wolfenstein games, will be its developer. Meanwhile, Bethesda Game Studios' head, Todd Howard, will serve as the executive producer of the new Indiana Jones game.
Right now, there's not a lot of information about the new Indiana Jones game to go on. We don't even know its official title. However, there's enough info out there to get a semblance of what the game is about, if you look hard enough.
Lucky for you, we've done all the hard work. If you'd like to know more about the new Indiana Jones game, then be sure to read on.
Does the new Indiana Jones game have a release date?
Considering that Todd Howard has a busy few years ahead of him, what with Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 being in development, it's safe to say that we shouldn't expect the new Indiana Jones game to release anytime soon.
Of course, we could be mistaken. MachineGames' only confirmed project is the new Indiana Jones game. Although Wolfenstein III is all but confirmed at this point, it wouldn't be a surprise if MachineGames prioritizes working on the new Indiana Jones game before circling back to the final piece of the Wolfenstein trilogy.
Either way, with the new Indiana Jones game not part of the slate of games coming to the Xbox Game Pass that was announced by Microsoft at E3 2021, it could be a while before we hear more about it.
Is there a trailer for the new Indiana Jones game?
— Bethesda (@bethesda) January 12, 2021
LucasFilm Games and Bethesda are keeping information about the new Indiana Jones game under lock and key.
If it's any consolation, Bethesda did share a teaser trailer of the new Indiana Jones game when it was announced (embedded above). It doesn't include any official gameplay footage, but it contained a lot of Easter Eggs. This includes a look at Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr.'s iconic whip and fedora, as well as a desk littered with books, papers, and a camera.
What is the story of the new Indiana Jones game?
The new Indiana Jones game will have an "original story" so there's no sense trying to look into previous media to find out story details about the upcoming title.
Who are the people behind the new Indiana Jones game?
MachineGames, one of Bethesda's numerous subsidiaries, is the one in charge of the game's development.
As we've previously mentioned, MachineGames made a name for itself with the Wolfenstein games. Specifically, The New Order, The New Colossus, Cyberpilot, and Youngblood, with a fifth one rumored to be in the works.
One thing of note about the new Indiana Jones game is that Todd Howard will be the Executive Producer.
Now, we don't think that working the new Indiana Jones game will affect Howard's work on The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield. However, it is interesting that he's working on the new Indiana Jones project. It certainly seems like the game is of high priority for Bethesda, albeit one that they clearly are not in a rush to put out.
Will the new Indiana Jones game be exclusive to the Xbox?
There is an excellent chance that the new Indiana Jones game will be exclusive to the Xbox Series S/X.
It's not confirmed yet, but most of Bethesda's upcoming games are exclusive to the Xbox Series S/X. Case in point, Redfall, a game by Arkane Studios, another Bethesda subsidiary. However, with Lucasfilm Games involved, the new Indiana Jones game might also release on the PlayStation 5 to guarantee that it has a wide audience.
If it really is exclusive to the Xbox Series S/X, MachineGames will have to prepare for the inevitable comparisons to Sony and Naughty Dog's Uncharted games.
