There's exciting news on the horizon with an incoming expansion for last year's popular beat 'em up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. The game, developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu, will receive a new batch of totally tubular goodies in the upcoming DLC, Dimension Shellshock.
The highlight of the Dimension Shellshock DLC is a new playable character, Miyamoto Usagi, from the popular comic book series, Usagi Yojimbo.
The sword-wielding rabbit has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the turtles in both the comics and the cartoons many times in the past. Now, he's ready to bring his steely samurai skills to your preferred gaming platform.
While the addition of Usagi is a treat in itself, the DLC's other major feature is a brand-new game mode. This one sees our heroes leap through portals in what the developers call a "new style of inter-dimensional battles."
The exact details aren't revealed yet, but the prospect of these time-spanning adventures will add a new dimension to the game, quite literally.
But wait, there's more! Dimension Shellshock isn't just about rabbits and portals; it's also about style. The DLC will add alternative color schemes for all the playable characters, giving you the chance to view your favorite heroes in a half-shell in a whole new light. Some of these are retro-inspired looks that harken back to the earlier iterations of the characters, giving a nostalgic nod to long-time fans.
And, let's not forget the fresh batch of original music from the soundtrack's composer, Tee Lopes.
Now, the more eagle-eyed among you might have noticed the teaser trailer hinting at multiple new characters, though only Usagi has been officially confirmed. Keen fans have already started speculating about other potential newcomers, with Kitsune from Usagi Yojimbo and a member of the Hamato clan among the possibilities.
Released last June, Shredder's Revenge has proven itself to be a smash hit, a tribute to the classic 90s' beat-em-up arcade style of gameplay and a testament to the enduring appeal of the TMNT franchise.
Unfortunately, Dimension Shellshock doesn't have a release date yet. Fingers crossed, it'll arrive before or in time for the premiere of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem on August 2.
