If you need further proof that gamers are the forgiving kind, all you need to do is to take a look at Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Despite coming out to a ton of praise from critics, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was plagued with issues from the start. The PC port, in particular, was notably terrible, forcing Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts to apologize and promise several weeks' worth of fixes. And, while Jedi: Survivor did ultimately outsell its predecessor, most expected its unimpressive launch to be an anchor that weighed down the game's overall sales numbers.
Except, it didn't.
Whether it was due to some sort of Jedi Mind Trick or Jedi: Survivor was just too good to pass up, Star Wars fans bought it in droves en route to securing the top spot in the United States market for April 2023.
What's more amazing is that Survivor was the best-selling game of the month even though it came out on April 28, which meant that it outsold Dead Island 2 (2nd), MLB: The Show 23 (3rd), and Resident Evil 4 Remake (4th) in just three days.
As shared by Circana executive director and analyst, Mat Piscatella, the rest of the Top 10 list are filled by known names like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (5th), Hogwarts Legacy (6th), FIFA 23 (9th), and Mario Kart 8 (10th).
Now, the question is, can Jedi: Survivor keep selling well?
The first title in the planned trilogy, Jedi: Fallen Order, sold more than copies by the end of 2020 as it ended up winning a handful of nominations and accolades. Jedi: Survivor is expected to enjoy similar acclaim although it won't hold a candle to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the GOTY award later this year.
With both Tears of the Kingdom and the last-gen port of Hogwarts Legacy coming out in May, we're curious to see what kind of numbers Jedi: Survivor will put up in May.
For now, players can look forward to upcoming fixes for Jedi: Survivor as Respawn continues to improve its performance on all platforms.
At the moment, Jedi: Survivor doesn't have a confirmed post-launch expansion.
