Battlefield's Marcus Lehto calls new leaks "Total BS"

Ridgline Games studio boss reacts to new rumors regarding Battlefield 7.

A new leak has popped up on 4Chan regarding "Battlefield 7". The post spills alleged details about the game’s campaign, multiplayer, and release date. According to the leak, Battlefield will add a battle royale mode developed by Ripple Effect - something almost instantly labeled "bullshit" by a dev.

Marcus Lehto squashed rumors about Battlefield 7.

EA and DICE have started to spill details about the next Battlefield game, whatever it may be called. One of the newest developments in the franchise is the return of the single-player campaign, which was noticeably absent in Battlefield 2042.

The upcoming single-player campaign will be developed by the newly formed Ridgeline Games, with DICE playing a supporting role. However, EA has not yet officially announced a release window for the upcoming Battlefield title.

Ridgeline Games’ studio director Marcus Lehto reacted to the "leak" on Twitter, calling it "Total BS". "Yeah, don’t trust leaks dude. Total BS," Lehto tweeted in response to a post sharing alleged details for the upcoming Battlefield game.

The leaked details allegedly originated from a disgruntled former employee of the studio. The employee claimed that the next Battlefield game will arrive in the fall of 2024. However, this is unverified information and it could have been anyone pretending to know details about an upcoming game.

Regardless, it is good to see developers actively debunking rumors and supposed leaks online - something very rarely done. Social media has been rife with unverified information about games which leads to confusion and the disenfranchisement of players.

What we know about the upcoming Battlefield game

EA wants to build a connected Battlefield universe.

Several months ago, EA announced that there are multiple projects within the Battlefield universe being planned. The company said that DICE will be taking the lead in building the next multiplayer experience for the popular first-person shooter.

Ridgeline Games, on the other hand, will be tasked with creating a full-fledged single-player campaign set in the Battlefield universe. Meanwhile Ripple Effect is assigned to developing a new experience for players of the series.

Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella has been tasked with overseeing the future of the Battlefield franchise. If all goes according to plan, Zampella will be building a connected Battlefield universe starting with these three projects - because everything has to be a connected universe these days.

As of now, we would assume that these three projects are independent of each other and will have different release dates and plots. However, there will be an overarching story within the franchise which will be told through these three projects.

These interconnected projects might have an overarching narrative.

We do not yet have an idea of what players can expect in the next Battlefield game. It will however be interesting to see a larger narrative play out across three individual games set in the same universe provided reports pan out.

In other news, Battlefield 2042 just launched Season 4: Eleventh Hour. We expect the game will have a huge influx of new players as the game is currently available for free on PlayStation Plus for March and was recently added as a part of the Xbox Game Pass.
