- Baldur’s Gate 3 will finally get full Mac support later this September, according to developer Larian Studios.
- Previously, Mac players who were on Early Access of BG3 expected the game to launch on macOS on the same date as for the Windows PC and later on the PS5 release. Disappointingly, that was not the case.
- This just leaves the Microsoft Xbox Series X/S owners waiting for official word as to when they’ll finally get to join the Baldur’s Gate 3 party.
Mac users are finally going to get in on the Baldur's Gate 3 party, as developer Larian Studios announces support in the next big patch.
Baldur's Gate 3 is arguably the best CRPG released in the past few years and the massive success of the launch is a testament to that. But while Windows PC and Playstation 5 players have been enjoying Larian Studios' masterpiece of translating Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition rules and the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, Mac users have been stuck on Early Access. Previously, it was expected that the Mac launch would coincide on the August release for Windows PCs, but that did not happen.
However, the wait for Baldur's Gate 3 for those who prefer macOS over Windows may finally be over.
Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios posted the announcement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Thank you from the fiery infernal engine we keep in place of our heart. ❤️🔥 We couldn't have asked for a better response to Baldur's Gate 3.
Patch 3 is coming September 21 with full support for BG3 on Mac.

Although it is mainly a confirmation of the third major patch for the game on all platforms, the developer included that Patch 3 will come with "full support for BG3 on Mac". This is the most important news for macOS users who have felt left out of the Baldur's Gate 3 experience. Many of these fans have gone on social media platforms such as Reddit and the official Baldur's Gate 3 forums on the Larian Studios website and the Steam community to express their disappointment.
And it did not help that Larian Studios would not previously commit to a definite date as to when the Mac version of BG3 would finally get issued, despite consistently providing hotfixes and patches for the PC and PS5 crowd. Plus, owners of the Steam Deck could even get BG3 to run, albeit with some compromises.
Earlier, Sony Playstation 5 buyers had a similar situation. As Baldur's Gate 3 hit record-breaking concurrent players on Steam since it launched this August, PS5 players could only gawk and wait for the official release of the game on the Playstation Store. And after BG3 gameplay was teased at PAX West, the PS5 version released as scheduled on September 6, 2023.
Now that Baldur's Gate 3 is officially getting full support for the Mac users with the upcoming Patch #3, there's just one more demographic that still has to wait for their turn. Due to the technical differences between the Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S, the launch of BG3 on these consoles will have to endure for the meantime.
Are you a Mac player that has been patiently waiting for Baldur's Gate 3 to get an official release on the system? What are you looking forward to most with finally adventuring in the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms as Baldur's Gate 3 finally gets full support for the macOS?
