Just a day before the launch of the full version of Larian Studios’ new Dungeons & Dragons CRPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, GOG is offering a free Goodie Pack giveaway.
Anticipation is at an all-time high for the third entry in the Baldur’s Gate series of roleplaying video games. While Larian Studios had previously released Baldur’s Gate 3 as an early access, the upcoming launch will finally have the full version of the D&D game set in the Forgotten Realms. In fact, the BG3 early access is reportedly just a small portion of the full experience, as the game will require nearly a whopping 150 GB of free space.
GOG announced the giveaway on the official blog and shared on the company’s social media channels, such as Twitter and Facebook. Aside from the Goodie Pack, the GOG announcement includes a fun quiz for D&D fans to find out which character class would suit their play style.

The BG3 Goodie Pack includes 24 exclusive emojis and stickers by Junha Kim. Kim, more popularly known as Orkonology on Twitter, is a Dungeons & Dragons fan and artist. Plus, the Korean artist draws a fan-made comic simply titled "Drow" (a humorous take on the familiar dark elf race popularized by the D&D settings like the Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk).
The other half of the Baldur’s Gate Goodie Pack is a set of high-definition wallpapers. The 3 wallpapers are sized appropriately to fit desktop monitors and mobile device screens. Each wallpaper features artwork used for the promotion and marketing of Baldur’s Gate 3.
The first Baldur’s Gate computer roleplaying game (CRPG) was released back in December 21, 1998. Developed by the legendary BioWare game studios, Baldur’s Gate set a new standard not just for video games based on Dungeons & Dragons, but for the entire computer RPG genre.
Set mostly in the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, Baldur’s Gate and its sequel Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn followed the Bhaalspawn story arc, with the main character learning their role in the cosmic order between good vs. evil. Aside from effectively translating the AD&D rules into the gameplay (character creation, races, classes, spells, creatures, and magic items), Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 are notable for the rich plot development and multiple endings dependent on the player’s choices and actions in the course of play.
The Baldur’s Gate games were originally based on the 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons system. After Wizards of the Coast acquired TSR, later games such as Icewind Dale 2 and Neverwinter Nights would instead use the popular D&D 3/3.5 Edition. Baldur's Gate III will be based on the current 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Open Gaming License (OGL) ruleset.
Larian Studios took their own spin on the influences and legacy of the Baldur’s Gate games to create the Divinity series of games. Starting with 2002’s Divine Divinity, the Divinity CRPGs received critical and fan acclaim, thus adding more entries into the series until 2017’s Divinity: Original Sin II. Some of the prominent gameplay elements the Divinity series include NPC interactions (including romance options), attribute and skill development, and alternate endings, which were inspired from the Baldur’s Gate games.
Baldur’s Gate 3 launches August 3 for the Windows PC, with a later release for the Sony Playstation 5 on September 6, 2023. No date has been announced for the macOS and Xbox Series X/S platforms, as of the time of this writing.
The GOG Baldur’s Gate 3 Goodie Pack freebie can be claimed until 10 PM UTC August 4, 2023.
