Antonio Banderas admitted during an interview that he is open to reprising his role as the masked swordsman Zorro.

The Expendables actor made this revelation to’s Chris Killian during a press promotion for his upcoming film Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. However, the now 62-year-old actor doesn't intend to fully return as the character. Instead, he would like to "pass the torch" to another character the same way Anthony Hopkins did to him in the original film.

In his words, "Yes, I would, I would consider that possibility, why not? Yeah, I think today, I said something like that to somebody. They asked me about Zorro. If they called me to do Zorro, I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is to pass the torch."

As it happens, Banderas has a candidate in mind for the torch. When Killian asked who he thinks is best for the role, the Academy Award nominee name-dropped his Uncharted co-star, Tom Holland. He stated that the Spider-Man actor is energetic, fun, and has the spark necessary to bring the character to life.

In The Mask of Zorro, Hopkins starred as the original Don Diego de la Vega. When he escapes from prison following a long incarceration, he reunites with his long-lost daughter and seeks revenge against the corrupt governor of his region, Don Rafael Montero.

After his escape, de la Vega runs into Alejandro Murrieta, played by Banderas, who is seeking revenge on the governor’s right-hand man. de la Vega decides to take the young Alejandro under his wing and train him to become the next Zorro. Together, they work to bring Montero down. By the end, Murrieta falls in love with de la Vega’s daughter and inherits his identity as Zorro, the masked swordsman.
