Anthony Mackie loves his butt in the new Captain America costume

Anthony Mackie will make his full feature MCU debut as Captain America in Captain America: New World Order.

During Chris Evan's time as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his portrayal of the character has been called many names. One of the most hilarious nicknames is "America's Ass." And, while his successor, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, isn't quite confident in the ability of the new "powerless" Captain America to lead the Avengers going forward, he's more than proud to inherit the same nickname.

Anthony Mackie promises that his ass looks delicious in his Captain America costume.

Recently, Mackie sat for an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz and fielded some questions about Captain America: New World Order. The film is set to begin shooting in March but the We Have a Ghost actor is yet to read the script. He revealed that he had four different costume fittings and bragged about his butt’s look in the spandex. In his words, "The round brown is going to make you as happy as peanut butter and jelly on a summer day baby. You know what I’m talking about."

Mackie didn’t stop there. The 44-year-old actor further teased his character’s butt look with the following statement, "I’m talking about straight solo shots, like as I go running by, the camera’s going to be here [gestures down]. You know what I mean… It's not about diameter, it's about radius."

Captain America’s ass is a long-running joke in the MCU. It began with the first Avengers film back in 2012 and was one of the draws of Evans’ Captain America with many fans making it the subject of internet memes. With Mackie’s revelation, he's confident he can continue the trend despite Evans’s exit from the role.

By the way, the role of Captain America has certain physical requirements and Mackie previously revealed he is doing a lot of work to get in shape. During an interview with Men’s Journal last September, the actor revealed that his diet consisted of a "lean protein and veggie diet of fish, chicken, and turkey with assorted vegetables," which he consumed five or six times a day for several months followed by other regimens, including heavy cardio workouts.

Chris Evans bowed out as the character following Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

Apart from Mackie, Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, announced at the D23 Expo 2022 that Captain America: New World Order will also star Lumbly, Danny Ramirez, and Tim Blake Nelson. They will reprise their roles as Isaiah Bradley, Joaquin Torres, Samuel Sterns/Leader from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Also, Julius Onah will direct based on a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, while Kevin Feige and Nate Moore will produce.

Speaking of New World Order, Harrison Ford will replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross in the MCU going forward, including Captain America 4. According to producer Nate Moore, Thaddeus Ross and the new Captain America will get into some skirmishes in the new film. General Thaddeus Ross has long had an antagonistic relationship with the Avengers and Sam Wilson, so that is hardly a surprise.

Captain America: New World Order will start filming on March 1 and is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 3, 2024.
