Paul Feig's 2018 thriller is coming back to do a sequel alongside the two lead actors, Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively.
Deadline reports that Lionsgate and Amazon Studios have teamed up for A Simple Favor 2 with most of the original cast members in tow. In addition to Feig, Kendrick, and Lively, Jessica Sharzer is also back to write the script.
A Simple Favor is based on the Darcey Bell novel of the same name and stars Kendrick as Stephanie Smothers, a widowed single mother, who also makes vlogs on the side, makes friends with Lively's Emily Nelson. When her newfound upper-class friend goes missing, Stephanie believes that it is on her to find out the truth.
A Simple Favor made nearly $100 million at the global box office on a $20 million budget. More importantly, the film also hit it big among critics, who loved the plot twists and the lead actor's performances as well as the open-ended nature. However, without a follow-up from Bell, fans believed that A Simple Favor was a one-off. Now that this isn't the case, it falls on Feig and Sharzer to try and recapture the critical as well as commercial success of A Simple Favor.
It's not yet confirmed if A Simple Favor 2 will premiere in theaters or if it will be an Amazon Prime Video exclusive. We're leaning towards the latter since Amazon Studios is on board as one of the producers.
In other news, Blake Lively's husband, Ryan Reynolds, is expected to come back from an extended Hollywood break anytime now. The Deadpool actor has enjoyed two big Netflix hits in Red Notice and Adam Project. Reynolds is reuniting with Shawn Levy for Deadpool 3, which will formally introduce Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
