The Amazon Prime Gaming subscription includes a monthly slate of free games. However, this month is notable for two reasons: one, it is the first time that it will be a staggered release (instead of a single release); and two, it will include the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year.

Subscribing to Amazon Prime has multiple benefits, including the 2-day shipping for orders made through the service, as well as access to the Prime Video library of streaming shows and movies. Of course, with Amazon Prime Gaming, players can redeem free games during the month of subscription.

For February 2023, Amazon Prime is trying something new. In the past, all the free games are available to the subscribers at the start of the month. This time around, the games will be released on specific dates, broken down into weekly schedules: February 2, 9, 16, and 23.

Most of the listed games are relatively new games, but one is an undeniable classic and is arguably the greatest entry into the Elder Scrolls series - The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Morrowind was the first main entry of the Elder Scrolls series produced by Bethesda Game Studios to fully adopt polygonal 3D graphics. Prior to it, The Elder Scrolls: Arena (1994) and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall used sprite-based graphics with a first-person perspective (not including the spinoffs Battlespire and Redguard). With Morrowind, Bethesda dropped the XnGine and adopted the Gamebryo infrastructure, which would later be the basis of the Creation Engine for later, more advanced games such as Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is arguably the best entry in the series, with multiple accolades including the Game of the Year.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is considered by many as the best of the open-world fantasy RPG series. While it adopted the Dungeons & Dragons style tropes, Morrowind's setting and politics in the area of Vvardenfell (located in the continent of Tamriel) gave it a unique experience with its giant mushrooms, volcanic and semi-tropical environments, and non-linear gameplay.

Morrowind received multiple accolades, including Game of the Year. On that note, the Amazon Prime Gaming freebie will be the Game of the Year (GOTY) edition, which includes the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansion packs.

It will also have the Elders Scrolls Construction Set, which is essential for those who like to create and use mods for Morrowind. Thanks to this Construction set, Morrowind is one of the most popular games in the modding community, with multiple mods in sites such as Nexus Mods that expand and improve the gameplay.

Amazon Prime Gaming released the free The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind GOTY to subscribers on February 2 along with Onsen Master, a hot spring business sim. Claiming the Morrowind freebie will require a GOG account.

The other games for February are Aerial_Knight's Never Yield and Divine Knockout (February 9); One Hand Clapping and BATS: Bloodsucker Anti-Terror Squad (February 16); and Space Crew: Legendary Edition, Tunche, and Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator (February 23). Four of these free games were created by Black developers in celebration of Black History Month.
