Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are close to returning for Murder Mystery 2

One of the biggest Netflix original movies is getting a sequel with both of its stars returning to reprise their roles in Murder Mystery 2.

After a series of box office bombs in the late 2000s and early 2010s, Adam Sandler's career has seen a bit of a resurgence on Netflix. For most of the late 2010s, Sandler's movies on Netflix have done relatively well. His 2019 film, Uncut Gems, even made it to the National Board of Review's top ten films of 2019. At the moment, Sandler is set to start in at least two more Netflix films: Hustle and Spaceman.

Murder Mystery probably would've done even better had it released in 2020 at the peak of Among Us' popularity.

Now, you can pencil in a third as reports are claiming that Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are close to securing deals to reprise their roles in a sequel to 2019's comedy-mystery film, Murder Mystery.

What's the plot of Murder Mystery 2?

Sandler and Aniston's chemistry on-screen is not surprising. The two are very good friends in real life.

Sandler and Aniston might not have won any awards for their roles as husband-and-wife in Murder Mystery, but the film itself was a huge success. Murder Mystery set a new streaming record for Netflix for original movies back in 2019, which all but guaranteed a sequel.

The film, which was directed by Kyle Newacheck, follows Audrey and Nick, a married couple whose attempt to try and rekindle their marriage ends up with them being framed for murder. The two must then prove their innocence by solving the mystery behind the murder (hence, the name).

With a sequel now confirmed, it'll be interesting to see what kind of murder case the two will end up trying to solve. Perhaps, more importantly, what circumstances lead to them trying to solve a murder in the first place.

Murder Mystery is one of the biggest Netflix films ever released.

According to Deadline, Jeremy Garelick was hired to direct the sequel. The Wedding Ringer director also wrote The Break-Up, which starred Aniston alongside Vince Vaughn, so there should be some familiarity between the two. The film will also reportedly start filming in various locations such as Paris and the Caribbean this fall.

So far, no plot details about the Murder Mystery sequel have been revealed. However, it shouldn't take an expert to know what to expect with Aniston and Sandler involved.

As for when it will premiere, the film locations hint at summer vibes. Because summer 2021 has already passed, Netflix could be looking at a June 2022 premiere date so that the streaming platform can release the film as part of its summer lineup.

In the meantime, fans can take their time binging the movies and TV shows featuring either Adam Sandler or Jennifer Aniston on Netflix.
