After a successful technical preview in late July, 343 confirmed earlier this week that it was going to hold two technical previews for Halo Infinite over the next two weekends. However, just as the first of the two multiplayer flight tests was going to start, it appears that 343 might have no choice but to delay it.
Is the Halo Infinite multiplayer beta going to be delayed?
According to community director Brian Jarrad, 343 hopes for the flight to "kick off, very, very soon." Unfortunately, the studio is also considering a "time-shift", which means that it might delay the start of the test flight. It's unclear what the cause behind this potential delay is, with Jarrad only saying that the studio found "some late-breaking issues" that he did not elaborate on further.
We're only a few hours away from the test flight at this point and Jarrad still hasn't clarified if it's going to push through or not. If it's any consolation, Jarrad did Tweet that 343 was already "preparing for take off". But, it's worth noting that 343 still hasn't sent out the invites. This means that the actual status is still in limbo. Halo community manager John Junyszek clarified that the earlier emails were "heads up" and that invited participants will receive their invites before the actual preview starts.
FYI: We are still a few hours away from making the #HaloInfinite tech preview available. Once that happens, we will send out invites via email and Waypoint.

TLDR; 343 is working hard to make sure that the upcoming test flight for Halo Infinite will kick off as scheduled.
With that said, excited players might want to temper their expectations. There are only a few hours left before the first test starts at 10:00 PT / 13:00 ET / 18:00 BST later today. The closer we get to its official start with no announcement, the more that we should expect a delay. If 343 decides to push back the initial test this weekend, we're hoping that the studio will opt to postpone it for another weekend instead.
Of course, we'll just have to wait for official word from 343 to know for sure.
In the meantime, you can keep yourself up to date with the latest speculations and rumors about Halo Infinite. For example, there's a growing number of people claiming that Halo Infinite is going to have a battle royale mode. 343 also recently clarified how Infinite's progression system works. Also, some images leaked recently showing an updated look for Halo Infinite's brutes.
