I was kind of forced to quit Ragnarok Online since I didn't have a PC and Internet connection of my own since I started college. Plus playing at an Internet café is just too spendthrift.

But I'm glad I quit. It gave me a strange new sense of freedom.

When it starts to feel like a second job (or job in general) its time to quit. Once you stop playing for fun it defeats the purpose. Atleast thats what I found.

When I was a wee little boy at the age of 13, I used to play WoW (it was also my first REAL MMO, so can't blame me for getting addicted to it then XD)

Anyway, I quit because I ran out of money for time cards, even tho I really wanted to play badly. About 2 weeks passed of not being able to play, then I got the money. I thought about getting another card, but for some reason I REALLY didnt want to

Never been addicted to an MMO but once a game is no longer fun, I just stop playing. And not gradually, I just one day, after playing regularly, stop and never play again.

+1

I went from shooters, then went nuts when I start playing WoW because it was a completely different environment and extremely non-linear. After a while, especially after hitting 70 with BC and 80 with Lich it became more of a job. After a while the game for me was more of a huge customizable chat client.

Must farm and sell to pay for raiding upgrades!

Vicious cycle.

Sometimes I swear it sucked being a good tank.

On excessive game playing -
"There is nothing here to suggest that this is a complex physiological disease state akin to alcoholism or other substance abuse disorders, and it doesn't get to have the word addiction attached to it," said Dr. Stuart Gitlow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

That said, I put a lot of hours into Guild Wars, often taking a few months break here and there. Eventually I was just all out of steam, game really ran itself out.

I don't think I was really ever that addicted to MMORPG's. The only one I have felt a real surge of dedication was perhaps The Legend of Mir II. I'd still like to play one if I can find one that suits my interests and has an environment which isn't traditional fantasy (WoW).

I think as I became older, I just kind of grew out of them a little bit. When you end up getting a few more responsibilities, your time kind of dwindles away before you know what the hell is going on. You get to a point in your life where there just isn't time to waste playing games constantly. Sure; I'd really love to get my teeth into something new, but until SWTOR (and maaaybe FFXIII) is released then there isn't anything that catches my eye at the moment.

A long, long time ago I used to play runescape, lolz. I then died in the game, lost some stupid items, and realized that the game was actually not fun at all. Then I didn't play it for like a year. Then, a real-life friend forced me to play it again. I played it a bit more, but I didn't let myself get addicted to a crappy boring game that sucks your life away; this time I played it for maybe a month (not continuous play; only really played it when my real-life friend called or something) before I realized just how boring and repetitive this game is. I have never played it since. I also have gotten my real-life friend to stop playing it
My advice: Ask yourself if the game your playing continuously is actually fun, or if it is an addiction.

Two levels away from the level cap in WoW, I was horrified at where ten hours of my day were about to go - raiding, arenas, dealing with the community and drama. Gave up cold turkey.

Now I play EVE and I forecast the same outcome.
