News For July
First up: more free shit. Heroes of Newerth, the main competitor to the hit game League Of Legends, has dropped its original purchase point of $30 in favor of going to a free-to-play system. People who bought the game prior to this get all champions (even ones yet to be released) for free, while players just picking the game up get a rotating pool of 15 heroes and the ability to purchase more with in-game currency earned by playing. You know what they say: if you can't beat em, join em.
Secondly: cheaper shit. Nintendo is slashing the price of the 3DS by a third. Nobody really knows WHY they're doing it (some say flagging sales, others say its to remain competitive with the soon-to-be-released PSP Vita) but the net result is that you get to save a lot of money buying one.
For all those who hate the balancing issues of the latest Modern Warfare games, particularly with Witches (knife-wielding madmen that run around insta-killing everyone), here's a ray of sunshine: Infinity Ward is removing the...

Let me open with the best of this month's news: that Californian anti-videogame law was struck down by the Supreme Court. The law would have had dangerous repercussions had it passed, but the ruling guarantees videogames (as a medium) a certain degree of first-amendment protection. This has already lead to Utah abandoning similar anti-game legislation.

If you don't like WoW and really hate the grind in MMOs in general, you'll want to avoid getting arrested in China. Otherwise you might be forced to farm gold until your eyes hurt, and beat with plastic pipes if you fail to meet your quota.
Yes, I'm serious. Apparently certain Chinese prison guards caught on to the popularity of the gold farming business and have been exploiting prison labor for personal profit - up to $1000 a day. Reminds me of good-old-fashioned slavery, only instead of being forced to mine for valuables IRL, they're clicking on them in WoW.
