i ve read a review of the game on a french site. They played a preview version. The core of the gameplay is quite the same as arma and ofp. The orders to your team mates are faster and more effective then in arma. No grass in the distance. Huge bugs concerning the ai and the game physics. Many restarts of the game due to shutdowns lol.
Rings a bell?

hello guys,

here is a french webpage --> http://blogs.wefrag.com/Mawwic/2009/06/24/tweaker-son-arma-ii-102/

a guy tested all different ways of modifying the graphic options in Arma2. And he gave back his advices which i will translate roughly to you:

First point, he tells us that the effects of some options cross themselves, for instance objects detail, in low, interacts with grass (which was supposed to be controlled by terrain detail).

I: Texture Detail: Above normal, it seems to only add to leaf structure complexity, with a loss of FPS. So stick to normal, you can afterwards regain that with increase of the fillrate.

II: Video Memory: above 512 Mo on your graphic card, put on very high.

III: Anisotropic Filtering: up to normal, improvements are visible, because they rest on land at far and medium range.
Higher options stick at close environnment around player, like the weapon (little loss of fps for not so much profits).
Like the texture detail, anisotropic have an influence upon leafs, make them softer. But if you want to improve the plants, it's preferable to use the fillrate which will enhance all the image.
Stick to Normal then.

IV: Terrain Detail: mainly influence on grass on the ground. Much beautifuller choice of colors on arma2 considering grass.
Open the file "yourname.arma2profile" in "mydocuments/Arma 2".
Search for "terraingrid=xx" and replace the value by "32.5" and then save the file. (for a comparaison 50= very low and 30=low.)
By not putting it to high, we can boost the object detail option, which, adding to the fact it increases density of grass, increases the display distance of ground objects like straw bundles, fences and so own.

V: Object detail. Higher is better.

VI: Shadow detail: the author of the text precognizes to disable them completely (i disagree but well, it's his opinion). takes too much fps for a poor result on his point of view.
Open the file "yourname.arma2profile" in "mydocuments/Arma 2" and look at shadingquality=0 , shadowquality=0.

VII: Postprocess Effects: on low, it permits to benefit from the motion blur. on high, it blurs the background and erase part of the aliasing. by increasing the fillrate, we ll compensate this soft blur.
High.

VIII: 3D resolution (or Fillrate): it's the native resolution of the game opposed to the interface resolution of your screen. Choosing a higher resolution than the one of your screen gives clearness to graphics, but only if you have power enough to do it. thanks to our previous adjustments, you can increase it by 125 %, which results in finer image and lower aliasing.
to calculate your resolution, multiply length and height by 1.25.
Go to Mydocuments/Arma 2 and open the arma2.cfg file.
Render_W=xx (width) and Render_H=xx (Height). Replace xx by your modified interface resolution (125%)

IX: View Distance: After 2000, this option takes much fps. the guy advices to put it on 2400, offers a good view. Higher, the far landscape is quite empty anyway.

X: command lines in shortcut:
_-nosplash
_-cpucount=2 or 4 (if you ve got a quadcore)
_-winxp if you have a sli or crossfire under xp.

XI: Deactivate the V-Sync: profits of 5 to 10 fps. only possible via the drivers of your graphic card unfortunately. the author advices to use the ati tray tools for ati cards to disable v-Sync completely.

Tutorial for Aelin1:
Aelin Asked me for some clearing on the user addons business:

1. screen of my arma folder on windows xp (works the same with arma 2)
http://www.monsterup.com/upload/1250008403771.jpg
you see three user addon folders which begin with @ (it's not an obligation to add @, but you see them instantly this way).

2.we will take the @bat folder and look what's inside.

another folder called Addons in which you find the pbo files of the bat addon you want to use in arma2.

Now that you placed the pbos, you need the game to look for these files, you do that by editing the command line of an arma 2 shortcut.

Shortcut properties:

a_
In this case, only one addon added in the command line.
(ps: the -nosplash command is to disable the bohemia interactive introduction when you launch the game.)

b_
second case, several addons added.
