Hey folks, how are you ? There are good news for all of you Battlefield 2142 Players, since finally, after 2 years and 2 months, the long awaited final 1.51 update has been released on Monday !

You need a clean BF 2142 vanilla installation, then update it with the 500 MB Full 1.50 Patch, before you apply the new one. I recommend to do so, because it could happen you get kicked by punkbuster continuesly if you try to update your current 1.50 or 1.51 Beta version to the final. (This worst case scenario happend to me)

As most of you already know, EA's next BF themed title is the Free 2 Play game "BattlefieldPlay4Free" which is currently in the Closed Beta Phase. Many have already applied for a Beta key, but only few had the luck to get one at all. And still there are many players who want to check out the game, and have a exclusive personal sneak preview. There are also good news for Battlefield 2142 players: A new version of the 1.51 Beta Update has been released ! Many Bugs which have been reported by the users in the first Open Beta Phase have been whiped out, and the new Version has a good chance to be the final one which is supposed to be released mid-January 2011. So, try to install the new update, test it, report any bugs and glitches you encounter. Don't forget to backup your BF2142 folder first, too. If you are lucky there are some servers up, running with the new update !

Temporary Downtime

Good Day to you,

Dear community !
How are you guys ? This is just a little notice to let you know that This BF2 and BF2142 will be temporary down at Aug 25th. starting at 10:00 p.m. (22:00) Pacific Daylight Time. Gamespy are moving their datacenter, which will take approx 6 hours.
Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 online services wont be available during that time.


Update:

The Gamespy server migration has been concluded. All services are up again.

This may be possible in the future, as soon as Treyarch adds the option to use a quickjoin command combined with IP adresses again.

Finally the news we have all been waiting for so long shows up:

The Bad Company 2 Client and Server Patches will be applied today ! The client patch will be 890MB large. The server maintenance process will start at 7 AM CET and will last at least till 11 AM CET. Due to it, the online Services and Servers for Bad Company 2 wont be available during that time ! And what you can expect from the updates I'll show you in the official

Changelog:

Server - Some potential sources for lag/rubberbanding have been eliminated
Server - The old reserved slots has been replaced by a kick-on-demand system like in BF2
Server - Log file for server admins: all remote admin interface commands/events are logged
Server - Log file for server admins: major server events + all chat messages are logged
Server - Idle kick is controllable
Server - Profanity filter can be disabled
Server - Teamkill-kick system is controllable
Server - Ticket counts and bleed rate are controllable per-level
Server - Infantry only mode available per-level
Server - Initial spawn delay and respawn delay are adjustable
Server - Server description can be up to 400 characters, and use "|" for line breaks
Server - Banlist can contain up to 10.000 entries
Server - reduced latency in packet handling

Admin Interface - fixed the player.onKill spam that occasionally happened

Gameplay - The brightness of the pilot view in the Russian helicopter has been reduced
Gameplay - Advanced Spotting scope works better
Gameplay - Knifing people in the back works again (we backed out the change that we had done for Server R11)

Gameplay - G36 now has crosshair when in Hardcore mode

Server Browser - Servers are sorted into 3 categories: Normal, Modified, Hardcore depending on their settings
Server Browser – Added support for retrieving update progress

Server Browser - All settings are automatically saved between sessions
Server Browser - Pings are sent via an alternate mechanism, which should work for non-Administrator users as well

Client - Fixed DX9 issue, which likely caused graphics glitches and perhaps crashes
Client - Fixed some crashes
Client - Toggle/hold crouch is user controllable
Client - Toggle/hold zoom is user controllable
Client - Vsync bugfixed for DX10/DX11
Client - Rewritten how settings are written to disk; this should reduce/eliminate the spawn lag
Client - Fixed bug where a player could join a server before the stats has been downloaded causing faulty stats in "EOR- unlock progression"-screen
Client - New chat system allows chatting when dead (but not during end of round) and keeps a 100 lines log
Client - Improved Play Now functionality
Client - Removed K/D ratio and Skill Level filters in the leaderboards
Client - Any points you get while being dead will be added to your score
Client - Reduced negative mouse acceleration
Client - Increased health on the Cobra to match other vehicles
Client - More informative disconnection/kick reasons
Client - Support for Map Packs so PC gets future VIP maps at the same time as consoles

The Balance tweaks are as followed:

Slightly increased the damage of the UZI at long range.
The AKs74u now has more felt recoil when aiming.
The G3, VSS, and all SemiAutomatic rifles now settle slightly faster between shots when aiming.
The PKM, Type 88LMG, G3, An94, and 40mm shotgun have returned to their former glory.
Increased the damage of the MG3 to bring it in line with the rest of the LMGs.
Fixed a bug where the Saiga12 with slugs would do too much damage at long range.
Fixed a bug where the SVU would do too little damage at long range.
Fixed a bug where M95 rounds would not kill armored targets with headshots.


For those of you guys the built-in Auto updater doesn't work properly, here is the link for the
Official Manual Patch ! Read the instructions carefully before applying this update !


The update includes the 3rd free DLC and unlocks the Squad Deathmatch mode in "Nelson Bay" and also the Squad Rush mode in "Laguna Alta". If you would like to know more, you can
Watch the Trailer for the DLC ! Not included in the CR8/SR15 updates are the support for the SPECACT DLC which would bring new Weaponskins and new rewards + achievements, as well as the support for the upcoming Onslaught mode ! The support for these features will be released in a later Gameupdate.



So, while the devs and server admins are busy doing their work,
you might hop into one of the classic BF titles !


Battlefield 2

By the way, one of the best games ever, the great Experience Battlefield 2 got 5 years old on June 23rd, and The Official Battlefield Xfire Community wants to congratulate belatedly ! It comes straight from the heart...


Battlefield 2142

There are also great news for the famous Battlefield 2142, too; It looks like a first version of the long awaited patch 1.51 has been released for closed testing, which started June 15th ! So its only a matter of time till the patch reaches open Beta status and all of us may enter it ! For those who want to help testing the patch during the closed phase, you can try to Apply as official Tester !

The patch will bring the contents of the Northern Strike Booster Pack for free, + 4 additional maps: The Conquest Map "Operation Blue Pearl", the Classic Battlefield 2 map "Strike at Karkand", the Conquest map "Yellow Knife" as well as a completely new Titan map called "Molokai". Jason Brice, who already made the beloved Snipermap "Operation Shingle" has build the new community maps. Oh, and the Update also removes the scan for the BF2142-DVD upon gamestart. You see, there is enough stuff to anticipate !


Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam

Soon after the biggest Videogame-industry related convention, the E3 started, EA and DICE announced their next Coup in the Battlefield Franchise. The big surprise is out, and it takes the Jungle fights experience to a new level with the first official Expansion for BC 2, called "Bad Company 2 Vietnam". And here you can watch the Official Expansion Teaser ! Be assured, DICE will release more footage and related material to the new title soon, and I'll keep you updated on everything !


Battlefield 1943

Some sad news, there have been some rumors regarding this game, like it will be released for PC soon. These rumors have now been "denied": "Yeah, 1943 isn't coming in July." (Bazaa, official Battlefield Producer via Twitter) However, DICE still hasn't announced any official release Date or further informations regarding the PC release yet.

Temporal Server Outtakes @ BC2

Ok, dear community, some of you have already noticed the current connection issues in the
Bad Company 2 Pc Game, and yes there are some server issues @ Electronic Arts. No Panic !
DICE and EA are already working on the solution !

Official Statements:

"EA is investigating the current connection issues with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PC version."
and "We have an 8% drop in players so its not everyone but EA is looking at it."

Bad Company 2 Maintenance

The servers for the PC game have been shut down for the regular EA Tuesday Maintenance.
And yes, maintenance is the only purpose, the Game Server update will happen at another time.

I'll keep you updated on the topic and let you know about any news
as soon as the servers will be up again !

I hope you all had a good weekend, if not, at least this week is going to start as best as it can, with a little sneak peek of the upcoming Bad Company 2 updates ! The Balance tweaks are as follows:

Slightly increased the damage of the UZI at long range.

Battlefield 2142 1.51 Update Status

But sadly, with all their dedication to Bad Company 2, the effort on earlier games of the franchise have been slowed down a bit. The only news about the Battlefield 2142 1.51 Update isn't a good one: Release delayed for "few more months". Sorry to deliver this news - Don't nade the messenger !

"Well as you probably know I own BF2/2142 and now BFBC2 PC which currently needs a lot of TLC to get it up to standard.

That doesn't mean I have forgotten BF2142 v1.51 though. Niklas (the programmer) is with me on BFBC2 as well and is lined up to work on BF2142 once we can leave BFBC2 alone for a while on its own

As some might remember, our build machine HDD also died so Niklas is going to have to rebuild the build scripts for BF2142.

We do have some good content coming in 1.51 too including BF2142 version of Operation Blue Pearl, removal of SecuROM and Safedisc DRM from the exe file and some unmentioned content from Jason Brice who made us Operation Shingle (which he has also fixed the bridge glitch on).

So BF2142 v1.51 is at least a few months out but it is certainly still coming and we haven't forgotten about it."

But its not that bad isn't it ? 2142 is close to -ahem- "stable" and playable and still delivers a lot of fun. I enjoyed the game so much that I've decided to add a new european server to the Xfire community. Good Day to you, soldiers !

How was your performance after last weeks BC2 update ? Some of you may have noticed the tweaks the gameplay has experienced from the Server Release 10. And indeed, a lot has changed. Even alot more than the last post could have handled so I will post it right now for your information and entertainment:


Complete changelist of all balance updates made in the R10 Server update for PC:


-Increased the base range of all Automatic and Semiautomatic weapons for more consistent close range combat.
-Slightly increased the damage of Semiautomatic rifles over long range for more consistent damage output.

-Increased the zoomed burst accuracy of LMGs and decreased LMG accuracy when moving to reduce LMG run and gun.
-Decreased the base damage of the M60 and XM8 LMGs to bring them in line with the other LMG damage values.
-Decreased the damage of the PKM over long range to balance it with other LMGs.
-Increased the base damage of the Type88 LMG to balance it with other LMGs.
 
-Slightly reduced the base damage of the M16 and G3 to balance the increased range.
-Slightly increased the damage of the AEK971, F2000, AN94, and AUG over long range to balance them with other Assault Rifles.
 
-Reduced the lethal blast range of the 40mm grenade and M2CG to highlight their role as a secondary weapon against infantry.
-Slightly Reduced the max range of the 40mm shotgun to balance it with other shotguns.
-Slightly increased the base damage of shotgun rounds and reduced their range to clarify ideal shotgun combat distance.
 
-Reduced the base damage of the PP2000 to balance the increased range.
-Increased the damage of the 9A91 over long range to balance its lower magazine size.
 
-Increased the damage and range of the M9, M93 pistols to make them more desirable as a secondary weapon.
-Increased the range of the MP443 pistol to make it more desirable as a secondary weapon.
-Increased the damage of the MP412 over long range to balance its low rate of fire.
-Slightly reduced the rate of fire of the M1911 pistol to balance it with other pistols.
 
-Increased the repair and overheat speeds of the Power Tool. Now overheats sooner but repairs the same amount before overheating.
-Increased the maximum number of Motion Sensors that can be carried from 2 to 3 and increased the speed which new sensors are acquired from ammo boxes.
-Significantly increased the speed of the Tracer Dart projectile to make it more effective against airborne targets.
-Increased the reload time of the Mortar Strike and reduced the damage it does to heavily armored vehicles.
-Decreased the range of Bolt Action Sniper and Pump Shotgun Slug rounds when using Magnum -Ammo for better Kit Balance, especially in Hardcore.
-Slightly increased the Health of soldiers in Hardcore for better Kit Balance.

-Increased the benefit from the Medkit Heal+ specialization to make it more desirable as a Specialization.
-Decreased the benefit from Vehicle Reload Speed to balance it against other Vehicle Specializations.
-Slightly decreased the benefit from accuracy specializations to balance the changes to range and accuracy tweaks.


-Fixed a bug where the BMD3 would take extra damage to the front armor.
Reduced the explosive damage from Attack Helicopter cannons.
-Increased the damage of AA guns against all targets. The AA gun should be much more effective against infantry on Port Valdez.


I must say after all these changes I really had to adapt my gameplay again, Knifing isn't that easy anymore for me. And I would like to hear your comments and stories about how you experienced the tweaks. Let me know if you find them fantastic or rather horrifying. I really want to hear !


Server Release 11

Speaking of horrifying, there has been indeed a nasty bug in server release 10, making it impossible to use your "server favorites" in the game. Luckily DICE didn't hesitate much and send the fixed Release 11 to the Server providers the next day. If your fav server list is still messed up, you have to delete each of the entries, then search and add them again, sorry !

R11 servers are being deployed

RSPs are switching from R10 to R11 now. Since lots of people are online playing, we are not going to a massive update right away.

Exact method varies from RSP to RSP, but it is done through rolling restarts / when servers drain out / when server admins opt to upgrade (via the RSP's control panel).


It fixes two things:

1) SQDM and SQRUSH levels are no longer automatically classified as Hardcore.
The reason why they were classified as such, is that the game's autobalance is inactive in those two gamemodes. This caused the server browser's new hardcore-icon logic to always consider those servers to run in hardcore mode.

2) Favorites handling has been restored.
Some R10 servers made people's favorites' list show the same server in all entries. This is corrected with server R11. Once server R11 has been properly deployed, some people will have to rebuild their favorites list. I don't have any statistics on how many people are affected.


Still, there is much to do, and DICE is already working on the next updates. I, for myself, would really like to see my M1 Rifle Stats finally being tracked, how about you ? :P

I also heard some, not many, but a handful of you played the game in 800x600 resolution. Since the game officially didn't support that resolution, the players had to enable it manually by editing the settings.ini of the game. The last game update now turns the game resolution automatically to 1024x768 as default no matter what you have edited. Sorry again ! Battlefield Heroes Free Content Update

It looks like DICE never stops putting great effort in their recent games, and so its not a surprise BF Heroes again got a really nice content update, brought a new map called "Midnight Mayhem", a new gameplaymode called "V2 Vengeance" as well as sweet jetpacks !

So if you want to take a break from BC2 and want to hop into Heroes again,
now is a good time to do so !

I am happy to deliver great news regarding Bad Company 2: The Server Update Release 10 is being delivered to the providers now and the Client Update Release 7 is ready to be downloaded via the Game's built in updater. I, for myself, am very impressed by the new server browser, which is just all nice, with all those working filtering options we have now. I have to say, I still haven't found the weapon tweaks they mentioned to be done in this update, but I am pretty sure you'll soon. Do not hesitate to post in our comments and forums about how you like the new changes / update.

Anyways, here is the list of changes, enjoy !

* MP – New Server browser
* MP – Added 15 second spawn timer for Conquest/Rush gamemodes at the start of round to prevent high end machines getting the upper hand before other machines load in.

BC2 Server Release 9 and more !

I know what you did last week !

Silently, without even knowing, most of you played on Bad Company 2 Servers with the magic Release version "9". As always, the update had been applied globally to all servers within 1 day, ensuring the continuous operating of all available online services for the game. For all you techno geeks out there, here are the details what the server update brought to us:

* admin.say command implemented
- the output currently looks a bit funky on the game client, like so: Player: [Server]:
but with the next game client it will look like: Server:
* admin.yell to squad has changed (you need to specify both team and squad)
* squad numbering has changed – the “no squad” squad has ID 0, and real squads are 1 and up.
* Autobalance improved, it shuffles people both during and between rounds now, and does a better job.
* mapList* commands reworked
* banList* commands reworked
* listPlayers command added
* admin.listPlayers command reworked (GUID, kills, deaths, ping and score added)
* Players have non-PB GUIDs now (these are distinct from PB GUIDs)
* onChat event reworked
- now it specifies target player subset as well
- shows text before profanity filtering
- client-originated chat messages starting with “/” make it to the server, and broadcast via onChat, but are not broadcast to other game clients
- use “/!” if you want to be able to send commands to your homemade rcon tools without showing the commands to other players
* player.onAuthenticated added
* player.onSquadChange, player.onTeamChange implemented
* Couple of crash fixes
* Support for “region” setting
* banList.save bugfixed
* mapList.nextLevelIndex is always pointing out which map will be run during the next round (so during round 1 on a 2-round map, the nextLevelIndex will point to the map currently being played)
* exposed number of rounds per maps in maplist.txt, and via the remote admin commands

As you can see, its more stuff for the server admins among you guys, because this time, DICE decided to put more work effort in the upcoming client update to get as many issues fixed as possible. Luckily, this upcoming client 7 release update is rumored to bring more stability and weapon balance fixes** and also, another Server Release, 10, will be applied prior to the client update. The Server release 10 is supposed to have the feature to force PB to be ON when in ranked mode, for example.

Bad Company 2 Players can expect the Server 10 and Client 7 release early this week. As always, the update will be applied via the built-in Game updater after a notifiying.

**Balance Fixes are not supposed to weaken certain weapons (like the m60) but to boost weaker ones.

The new mappack for Bad Company 2 is live now, just hop into the game and look for servers offering Arica Harbor Conquest Mode and Laguna Presa Rush Mode ! I have just tried the 2nd map, and all I have to say is: "It rocks !" - Now I am going to the harbor, Ahoy ^^ !

Updates. And a blast !

Hello fellow soldiers, we have some new intel provided by headquarters. After last weekends server version update R7 for Bad Company 2 it was only a matter of time until DICE supplied us with the appropriate client update of the game, too. Here are the details about the goods:

Server Release 7

• Players who registered at least 2 Battlefield games @ Battlefield Veterans have now access to the WW2 M1 rifle again.
• 20% less load on the server CPU
• improved hit detection
• better management of Punkbuster ID's.

Client Version 523648 (22.March 2010)

Changes:
• Server browser downloads 100 entries instead of 500 in a chunk – this makes the “Cancel” button more responsive
• Fixed crash during server browser refresh
• Low-level networking library switched back to the optimized version (the game client was temporarily running with one that had more debugging logic in it)
• Localization fixes in the scoreboard
• Server browser ping handling code modified

You see, the browsing feature was target painted this time very well ;)

Anyways, only little time has passed since this update, and the next server update R8 has already been delivered on 24 March, fixing some additional stuff:

• Workaround for the “player manages to join server twice” crash. Now the server detects this and refuses the player entry. Client might hang but it will not take down the server as well.
• Workaround for the “cannot join player to any team” crash. Teams might get uneven, most notably SQDM sessions with 5v3 players, but the server should no longer crash.
• Game sends PB output to pbucon (so pb webtool can be used to run PB commands and see their results)

Remember, every single one of you can improve the game by simply reporting bugs to the developers, so they can find a workaround ! You can do so here: Report Bugs !

And be assured, the next client update will follow soon, to prepare the game for the upcoming DLC. This DLC is the 2nd mappack, and it will be released on March 30th for free to all platforms. The pack contains the following:

Arica Harbor Conquest Mode - US Command launches a break through action directly at the Russian base. Collateral damage is of no consequence. Capture and secure tactical positions in Conquest Mode across the vast Arica Harbor map.

Laguna Presa Rush Mode - The valley and surrounding mountains possess a strategic value in the battle for South America, and an infantry assault supported by light armor vehicles is likely by both armies as US forces defend the nearby Dam.
- Sounds good to me !


Classic and upcoming Battlefields

We always knew the BF franchise is very popular, and after 2,3 million units have been sold of Bad Company 2 until March 18th already, you can really say DICE speaker Bazajaytee cannot be closer to the truth by stating "Bad Company 2 sets pace to become the top selling title for March 2010". Man, 2,3 million - Thats a lot of Dogtags ! xD


Remember the time...

Although its been a while since EA started the Battlefield franchise with BF 1942 and earned many prizes for it already, this game has left a big mark in the hearts and minds of most of the players. And it seems, some important persons were among these players, since the game won "Best Swedish game of the decade" at the "Swedish Games Awards" in Stockholm recently. And after this, DICE could also take home the "Best Swedish game of the year" award for their Battlefield 1943 ! You see, quality pays off double ^^

Pax East Convention

One of the most important events is ready to take place in Boston, Massachusetts and will open its doors in a few hours. All pre-sale tickets have been sold out already, maybe the crowd has heard about the presence of the Nvidia booth, where Bad Company 2 will be presented on Friday in 3D Surround on three 80 foot screens! NVIDIA will also present the World's First 3D Tournament on Saturday, March 27th starting @ 3:20pm. On sunday, the "Battle For PAX Championships" will take place starting from 11:00 am. If you happen to be one of the visitors of the Pax East, I suggest you to visit the Nvidia booth very often during these days !

Ah, its a good day to... update ;)

BAD COMPANY 2 STATS

Where do we begin ? Oh, well, lets start right off with Bad Company 2 and the very important "Third party" contributors who recently finished the first working version of their great Bad Company 2 Stats website site. Its covering the stats for all Bad Company 2 players on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and brings them in a nice format, as usual. The website also covers the usual leaderboard. Currently there are around 40000+ players tracked, and around 2000 are being added every hour. If you are lucky, your soldier is already among the tracked ones (I am not that lucky) Check it out:

BAD COMPANY 2 SIGNATURES

The previous mentioned stats site doesn't have a signatures function yet, but luckily I came across this 3rd party Website which provides free Sigs for BC2 players, I am pretty sure most of you know it already, but you know also there will always be noobs ;) Just enter your soldier name on the site and a little dynamic picture will be generated, including core stats for him. (Like kills, deaths, dogtags, wins, loss and so on). You can integrate this picture into websites and forums of your choice then.

BAD COMPANY 2 PATCH, March 16th 2010

Okay now back to the official news, Bad Company 2 gets, after last weekends excellent Server update (Additional Hardware, YEY !), the referring client update v522175 ! Mostly it brings more stability and lot of fixes. Even for the Singleplayer ! It will be delivered as usually per autodownload as soon as you start the gamelauncher. Naturally you will be asked first if you would like to download and install it. Wow. Thats service ! Steam users however, have to wait one more day until this update reaches their HDD, since the Steam Quality Assurance team is still testing the update before giving it the green light. BATTLEFIELD VETERANS PROGRAM

For all of you who want to unlock the exclusive World War 2 M1 Rifle in Bad Company 2, please be patient. The Veteran Program is currently being updated, and the website will be back online as soon as possible. There have been some issues with the registering of games with serial keys, and EA is working on it.

For those who aren't familiar with the program yet, here an explanation in plain english: Go to the Official Battlefield Veterans Website, login with your EA account, and for each of your Battlefield games you register you'll get a "Veteran rank". You need to register 2 Games to unlock the exclusive World War 2 M1 rifle.

Don't panic ! Server maintenance, episode...

Or so we can already say... The EA Masterserver for Bad Company 2 has been taken offline to perform further maintenance and -gasp- even add new hardware to the server ! I am pretty sure all players will profit from that.

Todays server maintenance is supposed to take place from 12:00-4:00 PST / 9:00-13:00 CET.

There will be another server maintenance tomorrow, Saturday the 13th during the same hours.

I'll keep you updated with any news and changes available regarding the maintenance.

Oh happy day...

Lets celebrate the release of the full retail version of Bad Company 2, which comes to light in North America today ! Together we've waited such a long time to see this day in all its glory upon arrival ! Europeans still have to endure some more days until they can get their hands on, but relax, I do everything to calm you down... NOT ! ;)

Lucky those of you who already preordered Bad Company 2 at the XFIRE STORE, because you wont sacrifcie any more of the precious possible gaming time to waiting for the mail to arrive ! Game over Man ! Game over !

Hello fellow soldiers,

I hope you enjoyed the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PC Beta as much as I did, because all good things have come to an end, and for the Beta this end is today. The official servers have been shut down today at lunchtime and noone should be able to join the Beta anymore.

Lots of bugs have been tracked and hunted down, and the DICE developer team carefully tried to collect all of your impressions, suggestions and your experiences you generously shared with them. For example, due to your feedback (and constantly begging) we will be able to set the FOV in the Final release. Lets hope everything else works out that good for us in the end, in the best way possible !

For those who tossed out random swears and curses to the surrounding world like me because of the ongoing lags in the game here the best news ever: Salvation arrived last week when Evenbalance (Punkbuster) announced they got the issue fixed ! - After searching the gamelogs with great help from passionate players to recreate the lags the cause had finally been discovered. I think nothing fits more if I quote a well known line from another popular, but different game franchise:

Bad Company 2 Beta Client Update

This morning the DICE Quality Assurance Team approved the needed client Update, which is now available and patches the Beta from version 512914 to version 517403 !

Here is the changelog:

This update is about performance and stability again. We are not doing any changes to the game's datafiles.

* Reduced input "lag"
On machines where the CPU would out-run the GPU, sometimes the GPU would queue up several frames' worth of rendering commands.
This could lead to the game having a high framerate, but input still feeling very sluggish.

Now there's a limiter on how many frames the CPU is allowed to be "ahead" of the GPU.
Control this setting via Settings.ini. Default setting: RenderAheadLimit=2

* Performance optimizations with biggest improvements on dual-core machines
* Fixed black "masks"
o The soot on buildings with holes in them had a bugged renderpath. We switched that over to a more well-tested renderpath.
* Improved hit-detection
o We've gone through the hit detection logic, and client+server will now give more consistent results.
* Fix for some "rubberbanding" issues
o C4 should stay attached to vehicles and not rubberband around
* Reduced spikes/dips in framerate
* Various fixes for alt+tab related CTD on Dx9
* More fixes for random CTD on Dx9
* Fix for crash when you're in a vehicle that gets destroyed

There was a race condition in the code;
System 1 thought "oh hey, you're leaving vehicle X"
System 2 thought "the vehicle got destroyed, let's remove it"

If system 2 ran before system 1, chaos would ensue.
This was actually fixed in the retail version since a month, but it was only when we got detailed crash reports from the community that we understood *why* the Beta was crashing.

Likely bugs in this build
I wouldn't be surprised if it (still) has trouble remembering your settings between rounds. It would be nice to have that fixed too, but it's better to get a patch out now, and look at the settings issues afterward.

Update:

The sheduled maintenance for the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 servers has been
finished successfully, you can all return to gaming now ! Gl and hf, soldiers ;)

Good evening, sergeants !

I hope you all enjoy the Bad Company 2 Beta and handle the ingame destruction to take down your enemies as good as I do by now. Ah what a happy weekend ! - Why you ask ? Well...

Point 1: I've finally managed to reach rank 11 - "Sergeant II" , which is the max rank for the Beta. Its a good feeling to be on par with my fellow Battlefield gamers. (Even its only the rank, not skill related)

Point 2: Electronic Arts released a new Gameplaytrailer, showing the current map which really gives an insight of what players can expect from this awesome game.

Battlefield Bad Company 2: Port Valdez Gameplay

Point 3: DICE does a lot to improve the Bad Company 2 experience, there have been over 5 serverside and 1 clientside based updates already.

The next masterserver maintenance is sheduled to happen on Tuesday, February 16th 2010, from 10:00-13:00 GMT, this would be 11:00-14:00 CET and 2AM-4AM PST. You wont be able to play the Bad Company 2 PC Beta during that time.

UPDATE: The server maintenance has been finished and DICE is currently working on the clientside patch which will be released later.

Well it looks like we have to wait a bit longer than expected. But I am pretty sure it will be worth waiting ! Don't worry, I will let you know if the Bad Company 2 Beta is working again !

Great NEWS !

First of all,

thanks to our great software engineers @ Xfire, who succesfully added the support for the Bad Company 2 Beta, giving us the ability to count the gaming hours and use the cool Xfire ingame features with the new King of the first person shooters ! (Note: no DirectX 11 mode support yet) I've used the features myself already in the game and I am very happy everything works as it should.

It has also come to my attention that lot of you BF fans used the functions excessively, too. The result: 57 full pages of screenshots and 4 full pages of videos. Not to forget the broadcasts... Always remember, the game, in its current state, is a BETA, and the full product will be all polished and bright. Of course, its something different and new, compared to previous Battlefield titles, but c'mon, 3 and a half year passing by since the last Battlefield title for the PC has been released is wayyy too looong time. The destruction in the game is awesome ! The reason why I am so excited is simple: Today, I managed to level down a house while my enemies where still inside - Pwned ! Of course, the beta has lags, bugs and crashes, but if you encounter them, it is your Duty to report them to DICE's Developer team, so they can work things out and improve the game for the benefit for all of us.

Good thing I could get this chance for a sneak peak of the game, since I had preordered the game in the Xfire Store and therefore gained a Betakey in time. The Beta will endure till 25 February so if you want to take
a look, too, you gotta hurry !

On January 28th there has been a little Bad Company 2 Beta update that has been delivered
via the autoupdater of the game. For those of you who might have missed or aren't just aware
of the details of the changes, I've just collected the infos again:

"The RC2 contains the following fixes:

Front end:
Fixes server browser crashes. Server browser more resilient against corrupt online service data, and better support for large number of servers.
Several server browser ping issues resolved.

Windows XP stability:
Fixed crash on windows XP at end of round, exit game and display mode changes and.
Proper window style / mouse confinement when starting game maximized on XP .

Options dialog:
Mouse sensitivity setting gives more effect.
Mouse sensitivity loaded on game startup.

The update to RC2 will be 8.4Mb

When you next start BFBC2 you should get this message (Steam users can update through Steam).
If you have trouble updating by running the game itself go to
\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2 - BETA and run BFBC2BetaUpdater.exe as Administrator."

And now to the other good news via twitter which officially confirms that the work on
the upcoming Battlefield 2142 update 1.51 has recommenced:

"Niklas is back on BF2142, working on finishing v1.51 once and for all.
Watch this space for more information."

However, the big lag issue in Battlefield 2142 is still ongoing, but so are the
investigations: "Evenbalance is still tracking the possible link between Punkbuster and lag players are experiencing in BF2142." - They also state that whoever comes across that lag in the game should
Send Evenbalance a BF2142 Lag report to help them solving the issue !
